Quilts of Valor awarded to 10 Greene County veterans

Family and friends gathered at the Grand Junction Community Center on Sunday, May 17, as the Perry Piecemakers Quilts of Valor group awarded quilts to 10 area veterans.

In a rare circumstance, three members of two families – the Dearborn and Kellogg families – were among those honored.

The Perry Piecemakers Quilts of Valor recognizes veterans in Greene County through a grant from the Greene County Community Foundation.The David M. Mosher VFW Post 9599 served as the fiscal agent for the Perry Piecemakers.

Currently the group is making quilts available to veterans in Guthrie, Dallas, Boone, and Greene counties.

Veterans may nominate themselves or be nominated by friends. Overseas service is not required to receive a quilt. Applications are available at the VFW Hall in Jefferson, the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Welcome Center, and all Greene County libraries.

The next award ceremony will be held June 6 at the Jefferson Elks lodge at 2 pm.Veterans of Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan conflicts will be honored.
