Iowa on foot: A museum program by a man who’s walked the state

Tyler Sullivan, who has walked Iowa for several years, trekking through 97 of the state’s 99 counties and stopping in 1,300 cities and towns, will tell his tales about what he’s observed in “Iowa Scenic Views by Foot,” at the Grand Junction Community Center on Friday, June 5.

The free program, presented by the Greene County Historical Society, begins at 12:45 p.m. A lunch will be served at noon. Cost is $12. To reserve at place at the table, call 515-386-4408 by Tuesday, June 2.

Sullivan, who is from the eastern Iowa town of North Liberty, was a high school long distance runner. He’s still doing the long-distance gig, walking through the state and giving programs at museums and libraries about his impressions of the Hawkeye State.

He runs at least one mile in each town he visits, and also writes a poem about his adventures in each county he visits. He’s visited more than 500 Iowa attractions in the past two years, and 80 museums so far in 2026.
