Memorial Day observances slated

Memorial Day observances are slated around Greene County as follows:

Sunday, May 24

Pleasant Hill Memorial Chapel – 6 pm. Homecoming service with patriotic music performed by the Town & Country Band and a salute to fallen heroes by the Rippey American Legion Post 583. Refreshments will be served. Pleasant Hill Memorial is in Grant Township, 1794 Redwood Ave, Jefferson.

Monday, May 25:

St Patrick Historic Church, 449 E Ave in Cedar Township, west of Churdan – 8 am Mass followed by a military service at the Cemetery.

Highland Township Cemetery, Hwy 4, Churdan – 9:30 am, Town & Country Band and military rites by American Legion Post 198.

Scranton Township Cemetery, 354 225th St west of Scranton – 9:45 am. Greene County High School band, student Riah Riphagen reading her winning essay in the American Legion “What the Flag Means to Me” essay contest.

Rippey – Fairview United Methodist Church, 9 am, followed by service Angus Cemetery at 10 am and Rippey Cemetery at 11 am. A meal will be served at the Rippey United Methodist Church afterward.

Old Rippey Cemetery, 2025 300th St, Rippey – 10 am. Schoolboy Soldiers of Rippey, American Legion Post 583.

Jefferson – Blessing of graves, St Joseph Catholic Cemetery – 9:30 am. Jefferson Municipal Cemetery – 10:45 am. Greene County High School band. Guest speaker Dr Elvin Thompson, with Riah Riphagen reading her winning essay in the American Legion “What the Flag Means to Me” essay contest. Franklin Township Cemetery, 2050 P Ave, Jefferson. Service at 11 am.
