With the arrival of spring, it’s time to choose and plant flowers and vegetables to grow in gardens. The Jefferson Garden Club is encouraging more planting in another way. The club has established a “seed library” where users can “borrow” seeds and enjoy the fun of growing their own flowers and vegetables.
Located in an enclosed cabinet on the south side of the Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County at 201 W. E. Lincoln Way, the seed library, which includes flower and vegetable seeds, is for all those who love gardening.
Mary Ann Wright and Deb Kucerak co-chair the project. Wright said about the library, “It is an honor system and users are asked to take only what they will plant with a limit of one packet per variety (flower and vegetable) and up to four packets per month.”
Users of the “library” are asked to note which seeds they are taking in the notebook provided in the cabinet. If there are seeds users would like added, those notes are welcome also. Visitors to the library are encouraged to return seeds from the crops they’ve grown for others to use next year. More instructions are available in the cabinet.

“We hope the seed library is well used and a good experience for all,” said Wright.
The Jefferson Garden Club is a volunteer group which meets monthly and its members enjoy field trips and interesting speakers. The club also cares for the Memorial Garden on East Lincoln Way. Those interested in more information about joining the club may add contact information to the notebook.
