Greene County district court, week ending April 3

In Greene County district court Jerry Lee Webb, 40, of Kansas City, Mo was sentenced April 2 to a time equal to what he has served after he pleaded guilty at arraignment to a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. The court found him unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees or court costs. The case has been initiated in December 2023; the warrant was returned March 27. He is also charged with possession of a short-barreled rifle/shotgun, a federal charge. The sentencing documents do not mention the gun charge. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Sarah Dawn Schwery, 49, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail, with all but seven days suspended and credit for time previously served after she pleaded guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense, amended from OWI- second offense. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for two years. She may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 96-hour alcohol education program in lieu of four days of the jail sentence. If she doesn’t complete the course, she must complete a 12-hour impaired drivers education course. Schwery was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if she obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $286. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Dambra Knowles, 63, of Jefferson was sentenced to six months in jail, with credit for time served and all but eight days suspended, after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of animal neglect with injury. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and she is prohibited from owning/keeping animals in her home. She was ordered to pay $322.80 restitution to Fairview Veterinary Clinic and $329 restitution to the city of Jefferson. She was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. She must also pay an amount not to exceed $500 for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $176.50 court costs. A magistrate case in which Knowles was charged with four counts of animal neglect- no injury was dismissed in January. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Zoee Anne Helmentoler, 19, of Grand Junction was granted a deferred judgment after she pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and she must pay a $105 civil penalty. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Joshuah Jack Sparks, 18, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of burglary- third degree. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for three years and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any treatment recommendations at his own expense. He must pay a $1,025 civil penalty and $100 court costs. A charge of possession of marijuana was dismissed. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Kyle Evan Habrich, 37, of Boone was sentenced to 15 years in prison with credit for time served after he changed his plea to guilty to possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. The prison sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional services for two years. A charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense was dismissed. The court found him unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. In a separate case against Habrich, he was sentenced to one year in jail with credit for time served after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Correctional Services for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete all recommendations. He must also complete a drinking drivers course. Habrich was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Dakota William Ocker, 23, of Ames was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of harassment- third degree, amended from harassment- second degree. The jail term was suspended. He was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. He must pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees to be determined and $327 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Alicia Anne Marie Ofelt, 38, of Van Meter, possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana; and Dakota Rae Sheer, 34, of Rippey, possession of marijuana and false reports to public safety entities. Trial dates were set for June 16 in both cases.

Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Ryan Lee Schulte, 35, of Harper is charged with theft- third degree and forgery. The case was initiated Sept. 12, 2025; the warrant was served March 5.

Cases have been initiated in district court as follows: Landon Arthur vote, 17, of Paton, burglary- third degree and criminal mischief- second degree; and Brittiany Ashby, 34, of Grand Junction, possession of marijuana.
