The Greene County Historical Society will host a St. Patrick’s Day open house from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 15, at the Museum, 219 E. Lincoln Way in Jefferson.
About 1,200 (13.6 percent) of Greene Countiy’s 8,600 residents are of Irish descent, according to to the Statistical Atlas of the United States, so get there early for refreshments and drawings for gift cards.
Janice Harbaugh of Jefferson will be at the grand piano, playing Irish tunes.
And Bob Hurley of Jefferson will be on hand with his recently published memoir, “10-31 Crime in Progress,” which is based on a journal he kept during his 25 years as an Iowa State patrolman. Susan Smith, also of Jefferson and author of “Susan’s Cookbook,” will have her hand-painted notecards for sale.
