The regular season ended with an 0-11 record for the Greene County girls soccer team, but the Rams came close to qualifying for post-season play at Avoca Monday.
The team played AHST Monday for the Class 1A – Region 6 game. AHSTW had a 1-11 record heading into the game.
The Rams led the Vikings 3-2 after one period. The game was tied at 3 after regulation play, and still tied after the first overtime. AHST scored to win in the second overtime.
Ram senior Esther Van Horn scored the Rams’ three goals on three shots, with senior Sophie Johansen credited with an assist. Sophomore goalie Lucy Vander Linden was credited with 16 saves and a save percentage of 80.
The Vikings advanced to play 13-2 Underwood on Wednesday at Underwood High School.
Last week, the Rams traveled to Nevada and Wall Lake. At Nevada, the Rams fell 18-0 with only the first half played. Goalie Vander Linden was credited with 10 saves. Against East Sac County, the Rams were able to add some pressure, falling 2-0 with one Raider goal scored in each half. Vander Linden had 12 saves in the game.
