Camilla Dohrer, 1930 – 2024

Camilla Dohrer was born March 30, 1930, to Bernetta (Green) and Art Schnoebelen in Iowa City. She left us on April 24, 2024, in Jefferson, at the age of 94.

Camilla married George Joseph Dohrer in 1950 and together they had four children: Tom, Mike, Pat (Mitchell), Margaret (Peg), and later “adopted daughter” Julia (Tom’s wife) who was like a daughter to Camilla.

Camilla and George lived in Iowa City until they began spending winters in Arizona in 1989. They were married for 62 years before George’s passing. In 2020, Camilla moved to The Gardens in Jefferson to be near her daughter Peg.

Camilla and George were avid Hawkeye fans and season ticketholders. They watched the Hawks play at every Big Ten Stadium more than once and Camilla enjoyed watching the Hawkeye Women’s basketball team, especially Caitlin Clark.

Camilla was tragically preceded in death by George in 2012; her son Tom in 2009; her daughter Pat in 2009; her daughter-in-law Julia in 2013; her son Mike in 2015; and Peg’s stepson, Michael in 2011.

Camilla is survived by her daughter Peg and son-in-law Tom Schmit of Jefferson; grandchildren Luke Mitchell and his friend Sarah of Cedar Rapids, A.J. Dohrer of Colorado Springs, Dylan Naylor and his fiancé Emily Evans, of St. Louis, and Jackson Naylor of Colorado Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at later date in Iowa City.  Online condolences may be made at lensingfuneral.com.
