The Greene County boys soccer team went 2-0 last week, remaining undefeated with a 5-0 record so far this season after topping Panorama and Kuemper Catholic last week.

On Monday, April 8, the Rams put a period on the game early, ending the second half just five minutes in when the 10 goal rule came into play, Greene County taking the 12-2 win over Panorama. Gesser Gutierres had nine goals, with Nathan Behne credited with five assists. Goalie Gabe Ebersole had three saves, allowing two goals.

“It was an offensive barrage in the first half as well as the first five of the second half. Overall, we played very well and communicated as a team. Still had a couple little lapses in the back end, but the guys continue to improve and will be exactly where we need them to be by the middle and end of the season,” commented coach Carl Behne.

“Gabe didn’t have to do much in goal. He had three saves that were pretty easy for him to handle. Both the goals that were scored were just from lack of clearing the ball and one was actually an own goal due to a bad hop. Lots of assists in the half. We passed very well, even with the wind and could have ended it in the first half if not for some missed shots and a couple great saves by their keeper.”

Team stats: Assists 9; Goals 12; Shots 24; Shots on goal 18; Corner kicks 4; Saves 3.

The Rams hosted Kuemper Catholic on Tuesday, taking a 4-1 win over the Knights, scoring two goals in each half and allowing one by Kuemper in the second.

“Not the day we had planned for,” explained Behne. “Had some unfortunate happenings causing guys not to be available. The boys were a little off mentally due to that but battled in a new formation and new spots. It wasn’t pretty but we got the job done. Now we work on our new rally for the coming week and prepare for some matches on the road.”

Tegan Chisholm scored two goals, with Nathan Behne and Brynley Ruzicka scoring one each. Behne and Blaise Schilling had one assist each. Ebersole had three saves and allowed one goal in the game.
