Sheriff’s report

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, April 24: At 5:39 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 6:43 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 1300 block of W Ave in Junction Township.

Monday, April 22: At 8:56 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 100 block of 210th St in Kendrick Township. At 9:50 am a deputy assisted the DNR and County Conservation with catching a wounded pelican on Eaton Avenue near 195th St in Bristol Township. At 10:48 am a deputy investigated a theft on Hwy 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson. At 11:41 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton.

Sunday, April 21: At 4:31 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on U Ave near 140th St in Paton Township. At 2:04 pm a deputy investigated an accident on J Avenue near 280th St in Greenbrier Township. Marty Danzer, 62, of Carroll was northbound operating a 8930 Case tractor with an AgCo planter on J Ave going through a bridge and going through a bridge. Randy Schulte, 63, of Auburn was southbound operating a 2023 Peterbuilt semi and trailer. He tried to fit in the bridge with the tractor and struck the planter, causing an estimated $10,000 damage to the planter. The estimated damage to the semi is $15,000. Danzer was cited for failure to yield half of the roadway. At 4:27 pm the sheriff and a deputy investigated an abandoned trailer on 222nd St near Parkland Ave in Grant Township. At 6:49 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 8:56 pm a deputy investigated a reported fire near Hwy 30 Street and D Ave west of Scranton.

Saturday, April 20: At 11:56 am a deputy assisted with a tractor stuck on the railroad tracks on N. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 10:26 pm a deputy investigated suspicious activity near 16th St and Hwy 30 in Grand Junction.

Friday, April 19: At 8:16 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a search of a vehicle in the 1200 block of N. Elm St.

Thursday, April 18: At 1:42 am a deputy assisted the Calhoun County sheriff’s office with trying to locate an overdue motorist. At 8:35 am a deputy assisted with getting two dogs that were running at large back to the owners on Hwy 30 near Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson.

Wednesday, April 17: At 8:07 am a deputy assisted with horses out in the 1700 block of J Ave in Jackson Township. At 2:46 pm a deputy investigated a phone scam in the 300 block of 9th St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, April 16: At 12:37 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on Hwy 144 near 250th St in Junction Township. At 2:38 pm a deputy investigated a report of a funnel cloud north of 140th St on D Ave in Cedar Township. No funnel cloud was confirmed in Greene County. At 4:44 pm the sheriff, a deputy, Jefferson fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident in the 1400 block of Jordan Ave in Bristol Township. Allen Case lost control of a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer and rolled into the north ditch. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $10,000.

Monday, April 15: At 5:33 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 600 block of Jefferson St in Scranton. At 6:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 14: At 2:05 am a deputy and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single vehicle rollover accident in the 1400 block of 130th St in Dawson Township. Shannon Hardie, 29, of Dayton lost control of a 2016 Nissan Altima, rolling the vehicle in the ditch and striking a fence. The estimated damage to the car is $16,000. The estimated damage to the fence is $1,000. The driver was transported by Greene County Ambulance to the Fort Dodge ER. Hardie was cited for failure to maintain control and no insurance. At 11:39 am a deputy investigated a hit and run accident in the 2100 block of B Ave in Willow Township. A farm implement had struck a parked car, causing an estimated $750 in damage. At 7:41 pm the sheriff, deputies, Jefferson fire, and Region 5 Hazmat responded to a semi that rolled into the ditch on 310 St near Brentwood Ave in Willow Township. The semi was hauling liquid 37 percent nitrogen. The container had broken in the accident and spilled 900 gallons into the ditch. Marco Gernandt, 36, of Coon Rapids lost control of the 2000 Kenworth and trailer. The Kenworth was a total loss. The estimated damage is $50,000.

Saturday, April 13: At 4:38 am a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 200 block of Gallup Rd. Kristin Johannesen, 34, of Arizona was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia*. At 11:10 am a deputy, Jefferson fire department, and Scranton fire responded to a controlled burn that got into some buildings on L Ave near 220th St in Bristol Township. At 3:27 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of dogs running at large in the 2200 block of 240th St in Junction Township. At 8:31 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near L Ave west of Jefferson. Michael Coffin, 31, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2021 Dodge Rebel. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $2,000.

Friday, April 12: At 12:47 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 4:04 pm a deputy attempted to find two dogs running at large on 305th St near Quest Ave in Franklin Township. At 5:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 500 block of 3rd St in Rippey.

Thursday, April 11: At 10:35 am the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant at 901 Grant St in Scranton. Controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, and other items of evidence were seized. Charges are pending lab results. At 2:49 pm a deputy investigated a dog running at large on Lincoln and Main Sts in Scranton.

Wednesday, April 10: At 2:07 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest.  At 4:47 am a deputy assisted with a group of horses running at large near Hwy 30 near U Ave at Rippey. At 11:03 am a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 11:09 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. At 12:50 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1500 block of 320th St in Greenbrier Township. At 9:01 pm Grand Junction fire and a deputy responded to an out-of-control fire on W Ave near 300th St in Washington Township. At 10:27 pm a deputy and Jefferson fire responded to an out-of-control fire in the 1800 block of 218th St in Hardin Township.

Tuesday, April 9: At 1:38 pm a deputy assisted the Stuart police department with serving a search warrant for a cell phone on a person in the 100 block of N. Chestnut St in Jefferson.

Monday, April 8: At 11:02 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. At 2:45 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect on 2nd St near U Ave in Grand Junction. At 7:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 100 block of E. Hager Street in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 7: At 2:17 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD in responding to a stolen vehicle from Texas. At 3:02 am a deputy investigated a car in the ditch on Hwy 30 near B Ave west of Scranton. Cade Brincks, 19, of Carroll was arrested for operating while intoxicated*.  At 5:05 pm a deputy investigated a burning complaint in the 200 block of 7th St in Grand Junction. At 7:24 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint on Sand St in Churdan.

Saturday, April 6: At 9:15 am a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping in the 1000 block of Main St in Scranton. At 10:30 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1100 block of Livingston St in Scranton. At 1:43 pm a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a ditch fire on Hwy 25 near 260th St in Willow Township. At 6:09 pm a deputy investigated a report of a tree across the roadway on D Ave near 125th St in Cedar Township.

Friday, April 5: At 12:34 am a deputy investigated a report of a grass fire near 177th St and Alpine Ave in Kendrick Township. At 6:22 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop at Sparky’s in Jefferson. He arrested Jacob Vreugdenhil, 27, of Scranton for driving while license barred*. At 2:15 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of Head St in Churdan. At 4:39 pm a deputy investigated a scam in the 400 block of Main St in Scranton. At 8:13 pm the sheriff and a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 700 block of Main St in Scranton.

Thursday, April 4: At 11:41 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on 175th St near E Ave north of Scranton. At 4:15 pm a deputy investigated a car vs ATV accident in the 700 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. Seth Blumberg, 25, of Grand Junction struck a parked 2003 Buick Century with an ATV. The estimated damage to the Buick is less than $1,500. At 4:46 pm a deputy investigated a car in the ditch in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Ave in Greenbriar Township. The vehicle was undamaged. At 7:25 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 3: At 10:46 am a deputy and the Jefferson Police Department investigated a combative person in the courthouse. At 11:11 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. Suanne Winters, 53, of Rippey was arrested for driving while license revoked and operating while intoxicated*.  At 3:03 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 200 block of Tallman St in Paton. The complainant later found the items previously thought to have been taken from the house.  At 10 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on S Ave near 170th St in Hardin Township. Seth Thurman, 20, of Churdan struck a deer with a 2010 Mercedes C300. The estimated damage to the vehicle was $3,000.

Tuesday, April 2: At 6:03 am a deputy, Jefferson fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on 190th St near L Ave in Bristol Township. Matthew Fecher, 48, of Jefferson lost control of a 2006 Buick Lacross and rolled into the n ditch. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $5,000. At 7:25 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident in the 1200 block of Hwy 30 west of Jefferson. Jeremiah Garcia, 42, of Ames lost control of a 2013 Toyota Sienna and entered the ditch, hitting a large section of fence. The estimated damage to the fence is $10,000 dollars. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $4,000. Garica was cited for failure to maintain control. At 2:03 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 10:20 pm a deputy assisted the Nodaway County sheriff’s office of Missouri with attempting to locate two wanted subjects.

Monday, April 1: At 7:03 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 600 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction. At 7:16 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.
