Sheriff’s report – March 2024

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Sunday, March 31: At 8:50 am a deputy investigated a horse running at large in the 1000 block of Orchard Ave in Hardin Township.

Saturday, March 30: At 1:49 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a medical call in the 1900 block of N. Grimmell Rd. Darrin Gordon, 30, of Jefferson was arrested for operating while intoxicated*. At 3:07 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a combative person in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way. At 8:48 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a horse on State St in Scranton. At 9:28 am a deputy investigated a complaint of forgery in the 200 block of S. Walnut St in Jefferson. At 8:13 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1300 block of R Ave Grant Township. Tanisha Taylor, 41, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2015 Buick Regal, causing an estimated $4,000 damage to the vehicle. At 8:48 pm a deputy investigated a fire in the 2200 block of U Ave in Washington Township. The fire was a unreported controlled burn.

Friday, March 29: At 7:47 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with the response to a domestic assault in the 400 block of N. Oak St. Jeremy Beason, 26, of Jefferson was arrested for domestic abuse assault*. At 12:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. At 2:33 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 2000 block of 260th St in Junction Township.

Thursday, March 28: At 4:56 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Brenda Groves, 51, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2022 Subaru Forrester, causing an estimated $7,000 damage to the vehicle. At 5:49 am a deputy investigated a gas smell in the 200 block of W. Percival St in Rippey. At 2:56 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 100 block of 330th St in Willow Township. At 4:31 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 400 block of 11th St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, March 27: At 10:30 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2000 block of S Ave in Franklin Township. At 3:35 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with a search warrant in the 300 block of E. State St in Jefferson. At 7:16 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 237th St near Kirkwood Ave west of Jefferson. Dallas Chargo, 40, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, causing an estimated $5,000 damage to the vehicle. At 8:41 pm a deputy investigated a fire near Division and Percival Sts in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, March 26: At 10:30 am the sheriff and a deputy investigated a fraud complaint in the 2200 block of H Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 12:08 pm a deputy investigated a reported theft in Grand Junction that did not occur. At 2:15 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on S. Wilson Ave and Russell St in Jefferson. Suanne Winters, 53, of Rippey was arrested for driving while license suspended or revoked*. At 5:45 pm a deputy investigated a phone scam in the 200 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction. At 10:36 pm a deputy, assisted by the Carroll County sheriff’s office, investigated a domestic assault in the 600 block of Brentwood Ave in Cedar Township.

Monday, March 25: At 5:34 am a deputy investigated a noise complaint on Lawrence St in Dana. At 2:18 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 1100 block of Main St in Scranton. At 2:41 pm deputies assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest.  

Sunday, March 24: At 2:31 am a deputy investigated a fight in the 200 block of Green St in Paton. At 11:43 am a deputy arrested Tanya Helmrichs, 44, of Grand Junction on an arrest warrant for possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense*. At 12:47 pm a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2300 block of Eaton Ave in Willow Township. At 6:20 pm the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant in the 400 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. Suspected controlled substances were located. Charges are pending lab results.

Saturday, March 23: At 5:05 pm a deputy attempted to locate a wanted person in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 5:35 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 500 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 5:44 pm a deputy, Greene County Ambulance and Scranton fire assisted a state trooper responding to a single vehicle rollover accident on Hwy 30 near B Ave west of Scranton.

Friday, March 22: At 5:04 am a deputy, Jefferson fire department and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 4 near 265th St south of Jefferson. Natieshka Rosado, 20, of Jefferson southbound when she lost control of her vehicle and entered the west ditch, striking and damaging a power pole. Rosado and a passenger were transported with minor injuries by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center. Damage to the 2008 Nissan Rogue Rosado was driving exceeded value. At 6:21 am the sheriff investigated a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 4 near 190th St north of Jefferson. Janice Winborne, 34, of Churdan was northbound driving a 2009 Crown Victoria when she struck a 2013 Nissan Frontier parked on the west shoulder of the roadway. Damage to Winborne’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000. Damage to the parked car was estimated at $1,500. At 6:24 am a deputy investigated a single-vehicle accident on 265th St near P Ave in Franklin Township. David Clifton, 65, of Jefferson lost control of a 2018 Ford F-150 pickup truck and entered the ditch. The vehicle was not damaged. At 10 am a deputy investigated a complaint of an insufficient funds check in the 800 block of D Ave in Kendrick Township. At 10:57 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 300 block of D Ave in Cedar Township.

Thursday, March 21: At 8:25 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1100 block of Livingston St in Churdan. At 2:46 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction. At 7:04 pm a deputy assisted the Perry police department with the K-9 and checked a vehicle for controlled substances.

Wednesday, March 20: At 9:06 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana. At 9:41 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1800 block of 205th in Junction Township. At 11:32 pm a deputy assisted the Perry police department with locating a subject in the 100 block of E. Percival St in Rippey.

Monday, March 18: At 11:54 am the sheriff, deputies, Iowa State Patrol, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 near K Ave west of Jefferson. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident. At 1:36 pm a deputy and Scranton Fire responded to a grass fire in the 1000 block of Eaton Ave. At 4:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 400 block of S. 12th St in  Grand Junction. At 5:12 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 800 block of Jay St in Churdan. At 9:21 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 600 block of Brentwood Ave in Cedar Township.

Saturday, March 16: At 4:51 am a deputy assisted the Boone County sheriff’s office with locating a semi that was involved in a hit and run. At 11:41 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of Sandoe St in Grand Junction.

Friday, March 15: At 8:48 am deputies, Greene County Ambulance, and the Jefferson fire department assisted the Jefferson PD with response to a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 and Mulberry St.

Thursday, March 14: Routine activity reported.

Wednesday, March 13: At 1:35 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on N Avenue near 110th St in Highland Township. The driver was stopped for erratic driving and has been in several videos speeding around Churdan at early hours of the morning. Two 13-year-old males and a 14-year-old male were in the car. The three are suspected to be involved in several cases in Churdan. Charges are pending. At 3:24 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of vicious dogs in the 500 block of W. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 3:51 pm a deputy removed a sick raccoon from a garage in the 900 block of Irving St in Scranton. At 4:42 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 900 block of Grant St in Scranton. At 10:27 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of reckless driving and noise from a 4-wheeler in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, March 12: At 1:15 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of stray cats being killed in Churdan. It is suspected that several juveniles are involved. This case is under investigation. At 5:03 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire responded to a ditch fire on 300th St near X Ave in Washington Township. At 5:46 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire responded to a ditch fire on 210th St and V Ave in Junction Township At 6:21 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of Third St in Rippey.

Monday, March 11: At 9:34 am a deputy investigated complaint of a sex offender registry violation at the Scranton library. At 11:04 am a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a field fire near 260th St and L Ave in Jackson Township. The cause of the fire was determined to a UTV.

Sunday, March 10: At 3:46 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to the city park in Churdan. At 1:11 pm a deputy, Churdan fire and rescue, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident in the 700 block of 140th St west of Churdan. A 16-year-old male lost control of a 2009 Toyota Camry, rolling the vehicle five times. The driver was wearing a seat belt. The driver was transported with serious injuries to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance. At 5:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 500 block of Hager St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, March 9: At 7:52 am a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 1:51 pm deputies, Jefferson PD, Jefferson fire department, Iowa State Patrol, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a medical call in the 800 block of W. Head St in Jefferson. At 9:22 pm a deputy assisted with an unruly patron at Casey’s in Grand Junction. At 11:54 pm deputies assisted with an unruly inmate in the jail.

Friday, March 8: At 1:59 pm the sheriff and a deputy conducted a search warrant in the 700 block of Walnut St in Scranton. Evidence was seized.

Thursday, March 7: At 9:41 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a theft investigation in the 600 block of S. Olive St. At 6:36 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. Randolph Glass, 58, of Rippey was arrested on a warrant for probation violation*.

Wednesday, March 6: At 6 am the Greene County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant in the 1700 block of B Ave, Rippey. The Iowa State Patrol, Boone County sheriff’s office, and the Central Iowa Drug Task Force assisted with the search warrant. Suspected controlled substances were found. Charges are pending lab results. At 9:26 am the Greene County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton. The Central Iowa Drug Task Force assisted with the search warrant. Controlled substances were located. Charges are pending lab results. At 5:35 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of Main St in Scranton. At 10:27 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on J Ave near Hwy 30. Cody Wegner, 32, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while barred*.

Tuesday, March 5: At 10:43 am a deputy investigated a complaint  dog running at large in the 400 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 3:16 pm a deputy assisted with a cow out on 170th Street and D Ave in Kendrick Township. At 3:45 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a ditch fire in the 1600 block of J Ave in Bristol Township. At 8:19 pm a deputy investigated a report of gun shots in the 600 block of S. 12th St in Grand Junction. The sounds were coming from a resident hitting a fence with a metal object.

Monday, March 4: At 1:52 pm a deputy assisted with dogs running at large in the 2000 block of 305th St in Washington Township. At 7:16 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 235th St near S Ave west of Grand Junction. Michael Ewalt, 54, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2015 Toyota Highlander, causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the vehicle.

Sunday, March 3: At 10:57 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 30 near Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson. Joe Blackmon, 48, of Yale was arrested on warrants for violation of pre-trial release and failure to appear. At 4:12 pm a deputy, a Jefferson police officer, Greene County Ambulance, and the Jefferson fire department responded to an apartment filling with smoke in the 300 block of W. Greenwood Rd in Jefferson. At 7:16 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident in the 1800 block of Hwy 30 east of Jefferson. Melissa Boell, 18, of Carroll struck a deer with a 2009 Nissan Altima, causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the vehicle.

Saturday, March 2: At 6:12 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Controlled substances were located and charges are pending lab results. At 2:50 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest on a warrant for violation of a no contact order. At 5:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 7:42 pm a deputy assisted the Guthrie County sheriff’s office with trying to locate a vehicle involved in a hit and run. At 8:13 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on 280th St and Q Ave in Grant Township.

Friday, March 1: At 7:38 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a vicious dog in the 600 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 10:30 am a deputy attempted to find a dog running at large in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton. At 11:22 am a deputy attempted to find a dog running at large on High St in Scranton. At 2:53 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson Police Department with a vicious dog.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
