Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, March 31: At 1:09 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center requested an Officer to assist with an unruly patient. The officer responded and assisted as requested. At 3:17 pm a complainant reported two vehicles had been burglarized in the 700 block of S. Locust St. The officer is investigating. At 7:26 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center requested an officer to assist with an unruly patient. The officer responded and assisted as requested.
Saturday, March 30: At 1:49 am an officer conducted a traffic stop in the 1900 block of N. Grimmell Rd. As a result of the traffic stop, Darrin Gordon of Jefferson was placed under arrest for operating while under the influence and open container – driver*. At 3:07 am staff at Greene County Medical Center requested an officer to assist with an unruly person in the emergency room area. The officer responded and calmed the person. Later the ER staff called again asking that the person be removed. The officer responded and escorted the person off the property. At 9:32 pm John Ades of Rippey reported having hit a deer with his truck near the intersection of Hwy 4 and 260th St. The vehicle was undamaged and the officer removed the deer from the roadway.
Friday, March 29: At 7:47 am an officer was dispatched to the 400 block of N. Oak St for a suspected domestic abuse assault having occurred. As a result of the investigation, Jeremy Beason of Jefferson was placed under arrest for domestic abuse assault*. At 3:09 pm staff at Fareway reported an incident of shoplifting having occurred. The officer is investigating. At 1:52 pm JPD officers provided traffic control for horseback riders with the Pony Express as they came into Jefferson. At 9:07 pm a complainant reported two juvenile males knocking on doors and cursing in the 200 block of N. Elm St. The officer located the two involved and addressed the situation.
Thursday, March 28: At 9:43 am a complainant reported a possible violation of a protective order. The officer is investigating. At 10:41 am a complainant reported a loose cow in the 1200 block of S. Mulberry Rd. The cow’s owner was contacted and removed the animal. At 12:10 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center requested an officer for a fight involving two male students. The officer assisted the staff and is investigating for possible criminal charges. At 3:35 pm a complainant reported possible lost or stolen property. The officer is investigating. At 4:31 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center reported a suspected dog bite injury. The officer responded and found the dog bite had occurred outside of the Jefferson city limits.
Wednesday, March 27: At 12:33 a complainant reported a suspected fraud involving a house listed for rent in Jefferson. The officer is investigating. At 1:35 pm a complainant reported a stray dog had come onto his property earlier in the day. The officer identified the owner of the dog and a citation will be issued once contact is made. At 2:02 pm a complainant reported a possible trespasser at a residence in the 700 block of W. Harrison St. The officer located the reported person and is investigated. At 3:35 pm the Jefferson PD executed a search warrant was executed at a residence in the 300 block of E. State St. The search warrant was related to a burglary investigation. As a result of the investigation a juvenile male was taken into custody and charged with burglary- third degree, theft- second degree, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of alcohol by person under age 18, and possession of marijuana*.
Tuesday, March 26: At 7:34 am an officer began investigating an overnight burglary at Jefferson Telecom. Subject(s) removed several electronic devices and cash from the business. The investigation continues. At 1:54 pm staff at Greene County High School reported a possible counterfeit $20 bill located in their cash. The officer determined the bill was a fake and will send it to the Treasury Department.
Monday, March 25: At 6 am an officer investigated an accident at Hwy 30 and N. Elm St. Ellie Parker of Jefferson was eastbound driving a 2010 Toyota Scion owned by Natalie Gilliland. Hendrik Steyn of Marshalltown was driving a 2018 Ford F150 owned by GCAS of Marshalltown. He left the stop sign from Elm St and attempted to turn east, but struck the Scion. Damage to the Scion was estimated at $5,000. Damage to the pickup truck was estimated at $150. The accident remains under investigation. At 2:26 pm an officer located a stray dog running in the 200 block of N. Cedar St. The officer is working to speak with the animal’s owner about the issue. At 2:41 pm an officer spotted a subject for whom he knew there was an active arrest warrant riding a bicycle in the area of S. Maple and W. South Sts. The officer stopped in the 700 block of W. South St and ordered the subject to stop and speak with him. The subject fled south on foot into a wooded area. Officers and deputies became involved in the pursuit. The subject left on the bicycle heading north. He was caught in the 300 block of N. Pinet St and arrested for the active warrant for parole violation. Jessie Sanders, 22, of Jefferson was also charged with interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor)*.
Sunday, March 24: At 10:18 pm an officer assisted with a possible overdose in the 700 block of N. Chestnut St. The officer transported the subject to ER, due to time delay with an ambulance.
Saturday, March 23: At 2:01 am a traffic stop near Elm and W. Lincoln Way resulted in the arrest of William Bejamin Poio, 49, of Jefferson for operating while intoxicated*.
Friday, March 22: At 6:40 am an officer investigated an accident in the 500 block of N. Elm St. Tracy Saffell of Jefferson was southbound driving her 2011 Ford F150. Amie Kniffin of Jefferson was northbound driving her 2011 Mitsubishi Galant. Kniffin slowed to turn left into a business lot and lost control of the vehicle due to slushy roads. The vehicles collided. One driver was transported by Greene County Ambulance for possible injuries. Damage to Kniffin’s vehicle was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Saffell’s vehicle was estimated at $2,000. At 11:53 pm a caller advised of a barking dog in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. The officer spoke to the owner and issued a verbal warning to correct the issue. They were advised if it occurs again, they will be cited.

Wednesday, March 20: At 8:10 am a resident turned in a cell phone he had found in the 100 block of W. Russell St. At 9:11 am DHS staff reported a possible pornography issue which occurred in Jefferson. The officer is assisting DHS in the matter. At 1:38 pm a complainant reported possible criminal mischief to a fence and vehicle in the 700 block of S. Elm St.
Tuesday, March 19: At 1:39 pm a caller advised of a tree cutting service blocking the road in the 1200 block of Rushridge Road. They advised the mail could not be delivered due to the street blockage. The officer arrived when available and spoke to the foreman of the crew. The vehicles were moved and the mail was delivered. At 6:57 pm staff pm staff at Dollar General reported finding a wallet in a shopping cart. The employee looked inside to see if she could locate the owner to return the wallet. She located baggies of suspected narcotics. The officer seized the items for testing, and returned the other contents to the owner. Charges are pending lab results. At 9:13 pm a complainant reported folder of personal documents lost/stolen from Regency Park. The officer is investigating.
Monday, March 18: At 10:22 am staff at HyVee Fast and Fresh reported an intoxicated male driving away from the store. The officer located the reported vehicle parked in the 100 block of N. Wilson Ave. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Emmanuel Sang, 43, of Des Moines for operating while intoxicated*. At 6:57 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center ER requested assistance for a patient who may have left the facility. The subject was located at home and taken back to ER.
Sunday, March 17: At 12:33 pm an officer assisted Greene County Ambulance and the medical examiner with a death in the 1000 block of W. Adams St.
Saturday, March 16: At 3:04 pm security staff at Wild Rose casino reported a subject on the gaming floor who had signed the self-exclusion paperwork. Maung Kee of Denison was issued a summons to appear on a charge of trespass- simple*.
Friday, March 15: At 8:48 am an officer investigated an accident at Hwy 30 at Mulberry St. Pamela Boyd of Jefferson was eastbound on Hwy 30 driving her 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. Abby Delp of Ogden was westbound on Hwy 30 driving her 2017 Kia Rio. Boyd turned left across traffic at Mulberry in front of Delp; Delp’s vehicle struck the side of Boyd’s vehicle. Both drivers and a passenger in the Delp vehicle were transported by GC Ambulance to ER for possible injuries. Boyd was cited for fail to yield upon left turn. Both vehicles incurred an estimated $20,000 in damage. At 3:58 pm an officer investigated an accident at N. Maple and W. State St. Jasper Shell was southbound on Maple driving a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck owned by Travis Shell. Jacob Emmert of Boone was eastbound on State St driving a 2017 Jeep Compass. Shell failed to yield at the intersection and the vehicles collided. Shell was cited for fail to yield to vehicle on right and fail to provide proof of financial liability- accident related. Damage to the truck was driving was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Emmert’s vehicle was estimated at $15,000. At 7:50 pm a caller advised he had witnessed a driver enter the parking lot at HyVee, load three bundles of firewood, and leave without paying for it. The officer checked with employees inside and learned the firewood had been paid for. At 10:11 pm a complainant reported smelling something burning in the 200 block of N. Wilson Ave. The officer checked the area and believed it was coffee beans being roasted.
Thursday, March 14: At 6:10 am an officer provided traffic control for a disabled semi and trailer near S. Elm and Ram Dr. The semi was towed from the scene. At 7:42 pm an officer arrested Jeremy Ernest Andrews, 35, of Jefferson on a charge of driving while license barred- aggravated misdemeanor*. The officer spotted Andrews driving near Hwy 30 and Mulberry St prior to the arrest.
Wednesday, March 13: At 11:57 pm a complainant requested a welfare check on a female in the 600 block of E. Adams St. The officer located the subject, for whom there was an outstanding Jefferson PD arrest warrant. The officer arrested Marissa Shawnay Olson, 34, of Jefferson for the warrant for possession of marijuana- serious misdemeanor*.
Tuesday, March 12: At 10:44 am a resident caught a stray cat in the 500 block of E. Clark St. The cat was placed in the Community Animal Shelter. At 12:33 pm an officer investigated a hit and run accident at the Dollar Store. Two subjects were sitting in a parked 2017 Ford Escape owned by Kristen Heupel. Another driver backed from a parking space, struck the Heupel vehicle, and left the scene. A registration plate number was provided to the officer. He is attempting to speak to the registered owner of that vehicle. Damage to Heupel’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500. At 7:21 pm an officer spotted an unattended fire in the 400 block of W. Head St. He spoke to the occupant about the fire being unattended and advised the Greene County remains in a burn ban.
Monday, March 11: At 4:02 pm a complainant reported her neighbor was burning leaves and the embers were blowing on her house in the 300 block of Rushview Drive. The officer attempted to speak to the neighbor, but no one appeared to be home. The officer extinguished the fire since no one was attending it. At 8:30 pm an officer investigated a car-deer accident on Westwood Dr near Deer Run. Victoria Riley of Jefferson was westbound driving her 2012 Chevrolet Impala when a deer jumped in front of her. The officer estimated the damage to the vehicle at $1,500.
Sunday, March 10: At 3:06 am a complainant reported a male subject had been at his residence in the 700 block of Sunset Rd and had threatened him with a shovel. The officer is investigating.
Saturday, March 9: At 10:42 pm staff at Doc’s Stadium advised an assault had occurred outside the business. The officer arrived and spoke to the person who had been assaulted. The officer advised the subject to call for a ride home and he became belligerent with the officer. Robert Gilmore, 38, of Jefferson was arrested and charged with public intoxication- simple*. At 11:54 pm an officer assisted jail staff with an unruly inmate in the jail.
Friday, March 8: At 10:40 am staff at Greene County High School reported they had confiscated a bag containing vaping products from a student. There were several vape pods containing possible marijuana oils. The officer took possession of the items to be tested at the DCI crime lab. Charges are pending lab results.
Thursday, March 7: At 9:17 pm Paul Costello advised he had backed into a vehicle in the 500 block of W. Monroe St. Costello had been backing his 2017 Nissan Titan into his driveway in the 200 block of S. Pinet St when he struck a parked 2011 Ford Focus owned by vehicle Dakota Sowers of Guthrie Center. Costello was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $1,500. At 9:41 pm a complainant reported a burglary had occurred at a residence in the 600 block of S. Olive St. A purse was missing and a debit card had been used in Jefferson, Grand Junction and Ames. The officer is investigating. At 2:58 pm an officer spoke to the owner of a trailer that had been parked in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way for several days. The officer advised the ordinance only allows for two hour parking of a trailer on the street. The trailer was removed.
Wednesday, March 6: At 3:46 pm a complainant reported her juvenile son had been involved in a physical altercation with another student while walking home from school. The juvenile did not know the name of the other juvenile. The officer will keep investigating.
Tuesday, March 5: At 9:59 pm management at Dollar General reported an internal employee theft had occurred at the store. An employee had loaded gift cards with money, but no cash was placed in the register. The thefts occurred on Feb. 24 and Feb. 25. The total loss was $2007.80. Charges are pending at this time.
Monday, March 4: At 11:34 am a complainant reported a dog had nipped her arm and rear in the 200 block of N. Wilson Ave. The animal did not break the skin with either nip. She was unaware of the identity of the male that had the dogs. She believed he did not live in Jefferson.
Sunday, March 3: At 10:49 am an officer performed a traffic stop on a speeding driver near Westwood Rd and Briarwood. Brooklyn Renshaw of Scranton was cited for excessive speed. During the stop, the officer could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a probable cause search of the vehicle a smoking device and plant marijuana were located. Charges of possession of marijuana- first offense (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor) were sent to juvenile court of a 17-year-old male from Coon Rapids*. At 4:12 pm an officer assisted the Jefferson fire department with a call at 301 W. Greenewood Rd. Food had been forgotten in an oven, causing heavy smoke throughout the building. No fire had occurred.
Saturday, March 2: At 2:50 pm an officer arrested Jodi Ann Ganoe, 49, of Jefferson on an outstanding Jefferson PD arrest warrant for violation of a protective order in the 200 block of E. Perry St. Ganoe resisted the officer and was also charged with interference with official acts– simple*. At 6:11 pm a complainant reported a suspected intoxicated male walking on Hwy 30 near Sparky’s One Stop. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Lewis Delbert Randolph, 52, of Jefferson for public intoxication- simple misdemeanor*.
Friday, March 1: At 6:53 am a complainant reported the theft of his wallet from an unlocked vehicle in the 400 block of S. Locust St. At 8:33 pm staff at Greene County High School requested an officer for a fight between students. The officer spoke to school officials, the two juveniles involved and their parents. All felt the incident was best handled through the school, not criminal charges. At 1:40 pm an officer spoke to a resident of the 1400 block of Southfield Dr about feeding stray cats. The neighboring property owners have complained about the issues involved with feeding the strays. The resident advised they would end the practice. At 2:53 pm a complainant reported his dog, which was tied up, was attacked by two stray dogs. His animal was taken to the vet for treatment on the wounds. The officer and two deputies chased the dogs in the southern part of Jefferson, but did not catch them. The animal’s owner arrived and caught the two dogs. The animals were deemed “Illegal” according to ordinances and had to leave the city limits. At 6:10 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino requested an officer for a person on the gaming floor who had banned himself. Richard Edward Larabee was issued a summons to appear on a charge of trespass-simple*.
