144-CHI grant applications open Feb. 1

The application for the Corridor Housing Initiative (144-CHI) allowing up to $1000 financial assistance will be available Feb. 1. Funding is in a match format to assist with exterior improvements. Examples of projects may include tree removal, sidewalk repair, installation of a wheelchair ramp, window installation, replacement of a railing or an unsafe step.

The 144-Corridor Housing Initiative is for people living in the towns on the east side of Greene County. Mary Weaver, CHI 144 chair stated, “Funds must be matched by the homeowner, but if you are doing an exterior improvement, why not apply to 144-CHI for some extra financial assistance while improving the looks of our towns?”

This is the second year of the 144-Corridor Housing Initiative. It was begun to aid with the cost of projects that will make the east side of Greene County more attractive.

The applications are available at the banks in Paton and Grand Junction and libraries in Rippey, Grand Junction, and Paton. Dana residents may obtain the application from council members or at Peoples Bank in Grand Junction.

The applications are not lengthy, and there is not an income filter, but the resident must live within the city limits. The project must improve the appearance of the exterior of the residence. The applications must be completed by April 15, and include a “before” photo. The application asks what needs to be done and a cost estimate. It is strongly encouraged that materials be purchased locally.

144-CHI board members will review the requests and will let the applicant know by April 30 if their project was approved. The work must be completed on or before Nov. 15, including submission of costs and an after photo. The individual will be reimbursed after the project is completed and the costs submitted.

Funds have been solicited from the city councils of the four communities, Louis Dreyfus funds, Greene County Development Corporation, Peoples Bank of Grand Junction, Rolling Hills Bank of Rippey, Home State Bank of Jefferson, and Community State Bank of Paton.

Additional information is available from board members Jake Bohnet and Annie Smith of Paton, Joan Dearborn, Derek Kennedy, and Alan Robinson of Grand Junction, John Rigler of Peoples Bank, and Mary Weaver of Rippey.
