Sheriff’s report – December 2023

Following are excerpts of daily activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Sunday, Dec. 31: At 9:31 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 600 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 8:55 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of fireworks in the 600 block of Main St in Scranton. At 11:01 pm a deputy investigated a report of gun shots in the 100 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Dec. 30: At 3:24 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a dog running at large in the 500 block of E. Main St in Scranton. At 5:08 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. John Fiedler, 42, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2023 Chevrolet Traverse. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $20,000.

Friday, Dec. 29: At 1:04 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 2300 block of 170th St in Junction Township.

Thursday, Dec. 28: At 12:28 pm a deputy investigated a verbal argument in the 200 block of Cartwright St in Rippey. Randy Glass, 57, of Rippey was arrested on a warrant for probation violation*. At 4:58 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1500 block of Neola Ave south of Jefferson. At 11:41 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 4 near 310th St in Franklin Township. Rylynn Gilmore, 21, of Dawson struck a deer with a 2015 Subaru Legacy, causing an estimated $10,000 damage to the vehicle.

Wednesday, Dec. 27: Routine activity reported.

Tuesday, Dec. 26: At 5:07 pm the sheriff and a deputy collected found drug paraphernalia and suspected methamphetamine in the 1600 block of Neola Ave.

Monday, Dec. 25: At 1 pm a deputy investigated an inmate who had made a weapon in the jail. The case is under investigation. At 2:19 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with trying to locate a vehicle, the driver of which was involved in an assault in Guthrie County. At 7:19 pm a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. Bret Kersey, 30, of Grand Junction was traveling north on 14th St in a 2015 Dodge Ram. Kersey did not see James McAtee, 31, of Grand Junction, who was westbound on Main St in a 2005 Ford F150. Their vehicles collided in the intersection. Kersey was cited for failure to yield to the right. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $6,000. Damage to McAtee’s vehicle was estimated at $3,000.

Sunday, Dec. 24: At 8:42 am a deputy investigated a complaint of fraud in the 500 block of East Main Street, Grand Junction. At 5:13 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Quest Avenue near 330th St in Washington Township. Billy Welder, 59, of Cooper struck a deer with a 2015 Jeep Renegade. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,000.

Saturday, Dec. 23: At 7:50 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1900 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 10:53 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest in the 700 block of Wild Rose Lane in Jefferson. Osvaldo Ruiz-Huaracha, 24, of Perry was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated- second offense*.  

Friday, Dec. 22: At 12:21 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 600 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 8:49 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 200 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 7:04 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1900 block of L Ave in Greenbrier Township. Jennifer Ashby, 51, of Jefferson was arrested for domestic abuse assault*. Thomas Shearman, 76, of Jefferson was arrested for assault causing bodily injury*. At 9:34 pm a deputy investigated a driving complaint on Hwy 30 and Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Jared Ramold, 24, of Ogden was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated- second offense*.

Thursday, Dec. 21: At 8:08 am a deputy removed an injured coyote from the roadway on Hwy 4 near 210th St north of Jefferson. At 1:36 pm the sheriff, deputies, Scranton and Jefferson fire departments, Jefferson PD and the Carroll County sheriff’s office responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 30 near the diagonal at 210th St near Ralston. Lance Rus of Le Mars was southbound (eastbound) on Hwy 30 driving a 2018 Peterbuilt semi-tractor. Garry Storm of Scranton was eastbound on 210th St (County Road E-39) driving a 1999 Buick Park Avenue. Storm failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of Rus. Storm’s vehicle was struck in the driver’s side. He was transported by Greene County Ambulance with possible injuries. He was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Damage to his Buick was estimated to exceed value. Damage to Rus’ vehicle was estimated at $10,000. At 3:57 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office assisted the Jefferson PD in executing a search warrant in the 900 block of Head St in Churdan. At 7:26 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana.

Wednesday, Dec. 20: At 8:05 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1900 block of 277th St in Junction Township. At 9:06 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 1800 block of Sherwood Ave in Franklin Township. At 10:18 am a deputy investigated a two-vehicle accident on Hwy 30 at S Ave west of Grand Junction. Nicole Blankenship, 21, of Templeton was eastbound on Hwy 30 driving a 2014 Buick Regal. Blankenship was following Joanna Neff, 56, of Jefferson, who was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima. Neff was slowing for a turning vehicle when her vehicle was struck in the rear by Blankenship. Blankenship was cited for failure to stop in a safe and assured distance. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $2,000. At 1 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of graffiti on buildings at the city park in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, Dec. 19: At 3:41 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway in the 1600 block of Newberry Ave in Grant Township.

Monday, Dec. 18: At 12:32 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Hwy 30 near Oakland Ave east of Jefferson.

Sunday, Dec. 17: At 12:44 am a deputy investigated a complaint of sparks near a power line on Hwy 25 near 270th St south of Scranton. At 7 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 100 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 6:52 pm the sheriff investigated a suspicious vehicle on Orchard Ave near 222nd St east of Jefferson. Lewis Randolph, 52, of Jefferson was arrested for driving while suspended and violating a no contact order*. Melisa Hayward, 48, of Jefferson was arrested for public intoxication and violating a no contact order*. At 7:47 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 100 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, Dec. 16: At 12:01 am a deputy arrested Christopher Lawrence, 43, of Jefferson for possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense (two counts), operating while under the influence, interference with official acts, and violation of parole. At 7:38 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief at a residence in the 1900 block of 130th St in Paton Township. An under-age party had occurred at the residence and a lot of damage was done to the residence. At 4:46 pm a deputy, Greene County Ambulance, and Grand Junction fire and rescue responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on W Ave near 260th St in Junction Township. Nicholas Collogan, 43, of Grand Junction lost control of a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer and rolled into a field. Collogan was transported to Greene County Medical Center with minor injuries. At 7:40 pm a deputy, Churdan fire, Jefferson fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision on N Ave and Hwy 4 east of Churdan. Emiline Kruif of Michigan was southbound on N Ave driving a 2014 Chevrolet Malibu. She stopped as posted at the intersection. Logan Butler of Churdan was northbound on N Ave driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. Kruif pulled out from the stop sign and hit Butler’s vehicle head on. Butler was transported to Greene County Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Kruif was cited for failure to obey stop sign and failure to yield the right of way. Damage to her vehicle was estimated a $9,000. Damage to Butler’s vehicle was estimated at $8,000.

Friday, Dec. 15: At 11:31 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest on a Dallas County warrant in the 200 block of W. McKinley St in Jefferson. At 4:18 pm the sheriff, deputies, Jefferson PD and Greene County Ambulance responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident in the 1500 block of 235th St east of Jefferson. Ryan West, 34, of Jefferson was westbound driving a 2018 Honda Civic when the vehicle had mechanical issues. West entered the south ditch and struck a driveway, causing the vehicle to roll. Three passengers were taken by ambulance to Greene County Medical Center. The vehicle was a total loss. At 6:48 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD in executing a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of E. Perry St.

Thursday, Dec. 14: At 2:40 pm the sheriff assisted the Jefferson PD with a domestic assault in the 100 block of N. Cedar St. At 6:53 pm a deputy investigated the violation of a no contact order in the 1600 block of Newberry Ave in Grant Township.

Wednesday, Dec. 13: At 4:23 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office and Fort Dodge police department conducted a search warrant in the 1000 block of Grant St in Scranton. Evidence was seized for an ongoing investigation.

Tuesday, Dec. 12: At 4:31 pm the sheriff assisted with a cow out on R Ave near Hwy 30 west of Grand Junction. At 6:19 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 700 block of S. 9th St in Grand Junction. At 8:39 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a car in the ditch on 240th Street and Orion Ave in Grant Township. Conner Groves, 26, of Jefferson lost control of a 2017 Hyundai Accent and entered the ditch, causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the vehicle. Groves was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence*. At 9:24 pm a deputy investigated complaint of water coming out of the door of a residence in the 400 block of E. Paton St in Paton.

Sunday, Dec. 10: At 3:45 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near G Ave east of Scranton. Sue Hueton, 66, of Glidden struck a deer with a 2012 Toyota Ray, causing an estimated $1,800 damage to the vehicle. At 7:38 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of an illegal fire in the 700 block of Grant St in Scranton.

Saturday, Dec. 9: At 10:42 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 2300 block of 2560th St in Junction Township.

Friday, Dec. 8: At 12:46 am a deputy assisted with cattle out near 270th Street and F Ave in Jackson Township. At 12:28 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 2300 block of 260th St in Junction Township. At 2:10 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Hwy 30 near R Ave east of Jefferson. Jason Miller, 41, of Ogden struck a deer with a 2009 Hyundai Azera, causing an estimated $3,500 damage to the vehicle.

Thursday, Dec. 7: At 12:07 am a deputy investigated a runaway child in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way, Jefferson. At 12:33 am a deputy and Grand Junction Fire responded to a hog confinement fire in the 2300 block of 210th St in Junction Township. The building was empty and was a total loss.

Wednesday, Dec. 6: At 12:06 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of child pornography and distribution in the 200 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. At 4:16 pm the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of N. 16th St in Grand Junction. Electronic devices were seized. Charges are pending lab results.

Tuesday, Dec. 5: At 12:07 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of Anyer St in Dana. At 6:07 pm a deputy investigated car-deer accident on 170th St near Q Ave in Dawson Township. Bret Kersey, 30, of Grand Junction struck a deer with a 2008 Ford F250, causing an estimated $8,000 damage to the vehicle.

Monday, Dec. 4: At 1:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:04 pm a deputy attempted to find two reported dogs running at large on Hwy 30 near E Ave at Scranton.

Sunday, Dec. 3: At 1:36 am a deputy investigated an abandoned vehicle in the 1500 block of 235th St east of Jefferson. At 2:54 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 800 block of Sand St in Churdan. At 4:06 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a fire in the 400 block of N. 16th St Grand Junction. The fire was a small pile of leaves that were still burning. At 8:23 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a sex offender living in the 1400 block of Woodland Dr in Jefferson. At 12:28 pm a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way St in Jefferson. At 4:24 pm the sheriff and deputies assisted the Jefferson PD in executing a search warrant in the 400 block of W. Head St in Jefferson. Two persons were arrested. At 5:02 pm the sheriff and deputies conducted a search warrant with the assistance of the Jefferson PD in the 1400 block of Woodland Dr in Jefferson. Dakota Amos, 26, of Jefferson was arrested for a sex offender registration violation- first offense and child endangerment- sex offender*.

Saturday, Dec. 2: At 12:29 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest in the 400 block of W. Madison St, Jefferson. At 4:26 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of S. 8th St in Grand Junction. At 6:05 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a large fire near Hwy 30 and J Ave east of Scranton. The fire was a reported controlled burn. At 8:54 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 400 block of N. 19th St in Grand Junction.

Friday, Dec. 1: At 3:40 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 600 block of S Ave in Hardin Township. 10:53 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of an illegal fire in the 1000 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. The fire was in a burn pit and was not illegal.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
