Ram grapplers attack the mats

The Greene County boys wrestling team has kicked off their season with a Nov. 28 quadrangular in Ogden and a Dec. 2 tournament in Independence. 

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Ogden High School to face the Bulldogs, Van Meter and PCM. Greene County beat Ogden and Van Meter, with a 39-39 tie against PCM. With the tie, a criteria list was used to award one point to the winning team, with “criteria c” for unsportsmanlike conduct the criteria used to award an extra point to PCM, the Rams ultimately going 2-1 for the evening. 

Gavyn Winters at 120, Jacob Harmeyer at 126, Gavin Scheuermann at 157, Brent Dennhardt at 165 and Degan Miller at 175 each had undefeated nights, winning all three bouts.

Cliff Keen Invitational – The team took a trip to Independence High School on Friday and Saturday for the Cliff Keen Independence Invitational. The Rams finished 20th out of 32 teams with each wrestler placing in the top 23. 

Brent Dennhardt was second at 165 with Gavin Scheuerman taking fourth at 157. Gavyn Winters had a fifth place finish at 120 while Brennan Jacobs at 106 and Crew Conner at 144 each took 13th place. Jackson Turner had a 14th place finish in the 150-weight class, and Jaron Jacobs at 106 and Degan Miller at 175 each saw 18th place finishes. Marcus Ball took 19th at 215 and Jacob Harmeyer placed 23rd at 126.
