In the neighborhood

Rippey celebrated Halloween – City of Rippey’s Trunk or Treat was Saturday, Oct. 28, with six trunks participating in the event. Rippey Public Library had pumpkin painting and crafts inside. We also had cookies and apple cider.

In spite of the cold weather, we had 35 people attend but it was a really enjoyable event. It is always amazing to see your small town come together. Thank you to Deal’s for the donation of pumpkins.

Rippey Lions Club – The Rippey Lions Club will hold their first meeting in November on Nov. 9, beginning at 6 pm with a potluck meal. Bill and Pauline Allen of Jefferson will present the program about their business, “Good Stuff “and how they have collected antiques, vintage furniture and home decor.  If you would like to attend the meal and the program, please call Nancy Hanaman, 515- 210-9354.

Jean’s Jottings – On Saturday evening, I enjoyed the performance of Around the World in 80 Days at the Perry Performing Arts Center.  Presented by the Perry High School and Drama Department, The Adventures of Phileas Fogg was fast-paced and well done by everyone involved. The 20 different scenes were changed quickly, making the production run smoothly.

Seth Borgeson was cast as a judge, a train and a ship engineer.  Several of the cast members had to use different accents depending on the country they were in at the time.  These young people are gearing up for auditions in December for the Spring Musical.

I joined Michael and Jill Borgeson for this special evening out.
