Summer reading fun at the Rippey library

The Rippey Library is hosting a photography talk by Peg Gannon of Country Studios on Saturday, July 8, at 10 am. Here’s what Peg had to say: “I once heard a lady from out-of-state say she would be glad to get through Iowa. It is all corn and beans. Had she gotten off I-80, she would have seen a much different Iowa. It has been important to show Iowa and people doing what they do best.

“The professional photography gave me access to training, equipment and processing no matter what the subject. My dad enjoyed the outdoors and taught my brothers and I how to hunt. Those skills can also be used in taking photos. Taking the photos has not only opened my eyes to how many different critters are out there, but has helped locate endangered wildlife and record changes in the numbers and habitat changes that draw in wildlife new to this area.

“I have thousands of images and hope to share these with others.”

On Saturday, June 24, Rippey volunteer fire chief Brad Rowe came to the Rippey public library with the Rippey fire truck. Even though there was some rain we had water play, games, a bouncy house, and an obstacle course in the lawn. We also had some firefighter crafts inside!. Lastly, we had two additional small obstacle courses inside, as well.

Fun was had by all who attended the kick-off. We had 11 youngsters, and 12 adults attend the event.

We really enjoyed when Brad said when he trained in Des Moines that he had to run with full gear on an obstacle course. Ours were not at that expert level. Thank you to Brad for making the truck available for this event and to the fire department for handing out coloring books and bracelets to the kids!

On Tuesday, June 27, we started music week off right by “Finding Our Voice” and putting together Piper the Organ! Stephen and Miriam from the Central Iowa Guild of Organists or CIAGO came and brought Piper the Organ with them!

First, we put together the organ and learned about all the pieces of the organ. Then we got to play the organ, as well! It was a really fun and informative program. Fifteen people attended this program. All ages learned many different things about the organ.

Miriam showed us the difference between a reed and flue pipe, one of the different ways sounds can sound different in a pipe organ.

Thank you so much CIAGO for bringing Piper the Organ and for Rippey United Methodist Church for the use of their hall.

Come “Find Your Voice” at the Rippey public library this summer.
