Rough week for Ram baseball

Last week, the Greene County Rams baseball team lost all four games, putting their season record at 2-17 as the end of the season approaches. 

The Rams hosted West Marshall on Monday, June 19, falling 14-3. At bat, Greene County had four hits, three singles with a double from Brayden Roberts. Camden Jacobs and Dakota Mobley drew walks, with Gavyn Winters and Roberts reaching on errors and Crew Conner being hit by pitch. Eleven Rams struck out. 

On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts with eight from Roberts. There were seven errors on 34 total chances. One runner was thrown out stealing by Isaac Carman, with one stolen base allowed by the team. Matthew Hovick and Winters were on the mound, allowing 16 hits with 10 earned runs, four walks, two hit batters and seven strikeouts.  

Tuesday was another home show for the Rams, this time hosting Manson-Northwest Webster, falling 10-6. There were 12 Ram hits, including two doubles from Roberts and one from Carman. Winters hit a sacrifice fly, with Jacobs earning a walk. Winters and Mobley each reached on errors. There were no Ram strikeouts in the game. 

Defensively, the Rams had 21 putouts and six errors on 27 total chances. Chisholm and Nathan Towers were on the mound, facing 39 batters, allowing 12 hits with two earned runs, three walks, two hit batters and three strikeouts.

On Wednesday, the Rams traveled to Perry, falling 3-2. Four singles came off the bats of the Rams, with Winters hitting a sacrifice bunt. Hovick, Adam Bills and Jacobs advanced after being hit by pitches, with Crew Conner reaching on an error. Five Rams struck out. 

The Rams had 18 putouts, with eight from Conner and five from Roberts. There were two errors on the field on 27 total chances. Hinote took the mound, allowing one hit with four walks and three hit batters, striking out four.

Friday night, Rams hosted Carroll High School for senior night. Matthew Hovick, Dakota Mobley and Brayden Roberts were honored for their time on the team. 

Greene County fell 5-1 to the Tigers. There were three Ram hits in the game, all singles. Winters had a sacrifice bunt and drew a walk, with Bills earning a walk as well. Carman advanced twice after being hit by pitches, and Hovick reached on an error. There were six Greene County strikeouts.

Defensively, the Rams had 21 putouts with five coming from Hovick and five more from Roberts. The team had six errors on 27 total chances. Hovick and Jacobs pitched, throwing the ball 124 times, allowing five hits with one earned run, three walks, one hit batter and five strikeouts.

The Rams are scheduled to play again on Monday at Nevada High School, Tuesday at Southeast Valley and on Wednesday at home against Saydel.
