Rams seventh in Carroll wrestling tourney

The Greene County wrestling team had a short week due to winter weather, but managed a seventh place win in Carroll on Dec. 17.

In the Saturday tournament, Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins each finished first in their weight classes, with Brent Dennhardt taking second, Gavyn Winters finishing third and Marcus Ball placing fifth. 

Carroll tournament –

106 – Gavyn Winters won by fall over Keaton Wittrock 2:54; lost by fall to Dreylan Schweitzer 2:51; won by fall over Caleb Hoffman 5:54; won by decision over Jesse Burton 12-6, third place.

120 – Crew Connor lost by fall to Jonathon Ryan 3:10; lost by major decision to Ryler Ziegmann 9-0.

132 – Kale Petersen received a bye; won by technical fall over Thomas Gamboa 20-5; won by fall over Riley Parkis 1:52, first place.

138 – McKinley Robbins won by fall over Brayden Chester 1:57; won by technical fall over Evan Lang 22-5; won by fall over Dominic Aljets 0:31, first place.

145 – Brent Dennhardt won by fall over Frank Lewis 1:59; won by decision over Parker Herzog 3-0; lost by fall to Cooper Ludwig 11-6, second place.

152 – Jackson Turner lost by fall to Jake Irlbeck 3:40; lost by major decision to nano Guillen 13-4.

220 – Marcus Ball lost by fall to Connor Hays 1:11; won by fall over Dylan Trewyn 0:38; lost by fall to Dayne Hunter 0:32; won by fall over Jeep Clark 0:48, fifth place.

Two junior varsity wrestlers took part in the Boone JV Invite on Saturday. Gabe Fincel placed first in Boys 9 and Zeke Binkley took second in Boys 10.

Boys 9 – Gabe Fincel won by decision over Bryen Hernandez 5-0; won by fall over Dawson Marine 1:41; won by fall over Tiger Friend 0:38, first place.

Boys 10 – Zeke Binkley won by fall over Seth Morris 3:59; lost by fall to Jaheim Jallah 1:05; won by decision over Keary Sanger 3-0, second place.

The quadrangular wrestling action was postponed Dec. 15 was slated to be made up Dec. 20 with Nevada, Saydel, CAM (Anita), and Van Meter in Jefferson starting at 5:30 p.m. Woodward-Granger and I-35 (Truro) wrestle in Jefferson in a triangular at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
