Greene County district court, week ending Dec. 16

In Greene County district court Candice Marie Ortiz, 35, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 14 days in jail, with credit for time served after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. She was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; the fine and surcharge were suspended. A hearing date has been set to determine if she is able to pay restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Darren Scott Lehrkamp, 30, of Scranton was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he pleaded guilty at arraignment to a charge of domestic abuse assault- second offense. All but 30 days of the jail time was suspended and he will receive credit for time served. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program. Lehrkamp was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge and a $90 domestic abuse assault surcharge. He must also pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Carl William Hale, 68, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty at arraignment to harassment- first degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. A charge of stalking- second offense was dismissed. Court costs were $952. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Allyn James Case, 35, of Jefferson was sentenced to 180 days in jail, with all but seven days suspended after he pleaded guilty at arraignment to assault causing bodily injury or mental illness. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Case was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. A charge of burglary- first degree was dismissed. Court costs were $131.50. (Sentencing: Honorable Adria Kester)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Melissa Renee Pedersen, 51, of Council Bluffs, driving while license barred; and Trent Richard Leners, 25, of Lake City, operating while intoxicated. Pedersen’s trial date was set for Feb. 28. Leners’s trial date was set for Jan. 24.

Information is available since the return of arrest warrants that Benjamin Kenneth Johnston, 18, of Churdan, is charged with theft- second degree and supply alcohol to person under legal age- serious injury. Information is available since the return of arrest warrants that Cody Michael Husar, 19, of Churdan is charged with theft- second degree, supply alcohol to person under legal age- serious injury, and possess fictitious ID card or license.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Dec. 16 as follows: Melinda Sue Caruth, 48, of Boone, fraudulent practice- third degree, and gambling- avoid set off; Brendan Joseph Hesser, 42, of Boone, gambling- avoid set off, and fraudulent practice- third degree; Silas William Naylor, 23, of Fort Dodge, possession of marijuana; Lia Napuaanuhea Lenchanko, 18, of Jefferson, assault causing bodily injury or mental illness; Austin Jesse Forkner, 34, of Scranton, operating while intoxicated; and Caleb Ernest Johnson, 29, of Jefferson, operating while intoxicated- second offense.
