Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:
Monday, Oct. 31: At 7:39 am a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on 237th St and Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. At 9:08 am a deputy assisted with a cow out in the 500 block of D Ave in Cedar Township. At 7:22 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 144 near 185th St south of Dana.
Sunday, Oct. 30: At 7:01 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of Head St in Churdan. Suspected controlled substances were located and charges are pending lab results. At 8:11 pm the sheriff and Churdan Fire responded to a field fire on L Ave north of 140th St in Highland Township. At 8:33 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 500 block of D Ave in Cedar Township.
Saturday, Oct. 29: At 9:57 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 1200 block of Head St in Churdan. At 1:20 pm a deputy and Scranton fire responded to a field fire in the 800 block of C Ave in Scranton Township. At 8:24 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 30 and A Ave west of Scranton. At 11:28 pm the sheriff and deputies investigated a reported underage party in the 1300 block of Head St in Churdan. Twelve juveniles were found in possession of alcohol. Isaiah Hinote, 19, of Jefferson and Mason Happe, 18, of Jefferson were cited for possession of alcohol under age*.
Friday, Oct. 28: At 1:17 pm a deputy investigated a backing accident in the 400 block of Harding St in Churdan. Eian Gardner, 20, of Churdan was backing a 2021 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck from a parking spot and struck an unoccupied 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup truck (owner not named). The estimated damage to the Colorado is $5,000. The estimated damage to the Silverado is $3,500. At 3:56 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 1000 block of Eagle St in Scranton. At 7:01 pm a deputy assisted with unlocking a car with a child in it in the 1000 block of Sand St in Churdan.
Thursday, Oct. 27: At 7:02 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Marty Alexander, 63, of Perry struck a deer with a 2017 Toyota Prius. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $1,400. At 9:34 am a deputy assisted with a hog running at large in the 700 block of M Ave in Bristol Township. At 5:01 pm a deputy, Jefferson fire and Grand Junction fire responded to a harvested field fire in the 1800 block of 270th St in Franklin Township. At 7:27 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near T Ave west of Grand Junction. Brent Cairo, 63, of West Des Moines struck a deer with a 1999 Cadillac Eldorado, causing an estimated $750 damage to the vehicle.
Wednesday, Oct. 26: At 11:04 am a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of W. State St in Paton. At 11:43 am the sheriff’s office and the Jefferson PD conducted a search warrant at a residence in the 700 block of Pinet Place in Jefferson. Suspected controlled substances were seized. Charges are pending lab results. At 4:27 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out in the 1600 block of S Ave in Grant Township. At 6:41 pm a deputy assisted in the jail with an inmate.
Tuesday, Oct. 25: At 3:56 pm the sheriff’s office and the Jefferson PD conducted a consent search of a juvenile’s room. Suspected marijuana products were seized. Charges are pending lab results.
Monday, Oct. 24: At 6:03 am a deputy investigated an attempted burglary in the 600 block of 3rd St in Rippey. At 11:42 am Kage Gordon, 26, of New Jersey was booked into the jail for transport to prison. At 3:29 pm the sheriff investigated a trespass complaint in the 1400 block of U Ave north of Grand Junction. At 3:48 pm Richard Sabus, 59, of Churdan was booked into the jail for transport to prison. At 7:45 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 200 block of 5th St in Grand Junction.
Sunday, Oct. 23: At 9:56 am a deputy investigated a vicious dog complaint near E. Main and Hager Sts in Grand Junction. At 8:26 pm a deputy, Jefferson fire, and Churdan fire responded to a tractor fire on Fitzpatrick St in Churdan. The Case IH quad track was a total loss. It is believed a bearing in the track assembly started corn stalks on fire in the track. At 9:28 pm a deputy located a vehicle stolen out of Minnesota on Highway 4 and 170th St in Hardin Township.
Saturday, Oct. 22: At 2:11 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest for operating while under the influence.
Friday, Oct. 21: At 3:09 am a deputy assisted a JPD officer with a traffic stop that resulted in an arrest of the driver for operating while intoxicated. At 10:45 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Main St in Scranton. Kaleb Lentz, 38, of Scranton was arrested for driving while license barred*. At 6:27 pm, a deputy removed a dead deer from the roadway on Highway 30 at J Ave west of Jefferson.
Thursday, Oct. 20: At 9:39 am a deputy was dispatched to an accident in the 1500 blk of Highway 30 east of Grand Junction. Dustin Dolan, 22, West Des Moines was westbound driving a 2022 Ford F250 pickup truck. Sealeana Smith, 25, of Grand Junction was following Dolan, driving a 2018 Dodge Durango. Dolan slowed to make a turn. Smith failed to slow and struck the rear of Dolan’s vehicle. Smith was cited for failure to stop in assured clear distance. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $5,000. Damage to Dolan’s vehicle was estimated at $10,000. At 7:10 pm a deputy was advised of a ditch fire in the 2400 blk of 130th St in Paton Township. Paton fire department also responded. At 7:18 pm a deputy responded to a car-deer accident in the 1000 block of Highway 30 east of Scranton. Vicki Padgett, 64, of Lake City struck a deer with the grill of her 2002 Chevrolet Impala. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $500.
Wednesday, Oct. 19: At 9:28 am a deputy arrested Jessica Duong, 30, of Carroll for outstanding warrants for violation of no contact order- two counts*. At 6:18 pm a deputy assisted with an injured pelican in the 700 block of L Ave in Bristol Township.

Monday, Oct. 17: At 1:31 am a deputy assisted a jailer with a medical issue in the jail. At 2:57 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.
Sunday, Oct. 16: At 10:26 am the Greene County sheriff’s office conducted a search warrant in the 400 block of 130th St in Cedar Township. Suspected Controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were seized. Charges are pending lab results. At 1:50 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office and the Jefferson police department conducted a search warrant in the 100 block of E. Central Ave, Jefferson. Suspected controlled substances and drug paraphernalia were seized. Charges are pending lab results. At 7:08 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 237th Street near Jordan Ave in Jackson Township. Anthony Bainter, 34, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck, causing an estimated $200 damage to the truck. At 7:27 pm a deputy investigated an illegal burn in the 1000 block of E. Railroad St in Grand Junction.
Saturday, Oct. 15: At 5:52 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near R Ave east of Jefferson. Amber Passow, 37, of Farnhamville struck a deer with a 2021 Toyota Rav4, causing an estimated $8,000 damage to the vehicle. At 12:53 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of S. 6th St in Grand Junction.
Friday, Oct. 14: At 10:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 300 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 6:11 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1100 block of U Ave north of Grand Junction. Cory Nevitt, 21, of Menlo was arrested for assault*.
Thursday, Oct. 13: At 11:41 am a deputy investigated a scam in the 400 block of N. 18th St in Grand Junction.
Wednesday, Oct. 12: At 4:56 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on D Ave near 130th St in Cedar Township. The driver had left before the deputy arrived. At 3:20 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 200 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction. At 4:58 pm a deputy assisted with a donkey running at large in the 1500 block of U Ave near Grand Junction. At 7:51 pm a deputy investigated a driving complaint at 330th St and N Ave in Franklin Township. Anthony Balch, 36, of Fort Dodge was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated*. He was cited for driving without a license. At 11:13 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with an arrest at Wild Rose Casino.
Tuesday, Oct. 11: At 6:49 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on 170th St near S Ave in Hardin Township. A 17-year-old male stuck a deer with a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage to the truck. At 7:59 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near S Ave east of Jefferson. Teresa Lansman, 53, of Grand Junction struck a deer with a 2015 Dodge Caravan. The estimated damage to the van was $2,000.
Monday, Oct. 10: At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a possible burglary in the 900 block of Railroad St in Grand Junction. At 9:45 pm a deputy investigated an unreported controlled burn in the 1600 block of 140th St in Dawson Township.
Sunday, Oct. 9: At 7:32 pm a deputy investigated a three-car accident on 130th St near R Ave in Dawson Township. Michael Minnehan, 64, of Churdan was westbound on 130th St in a 2010 Jaguar 970 stock chopper. Alanna Husar, 55, of Churdan was westbound on 130th St in a 2012 Chevrolet Impala and rear ended the stock chopper. Michael Husar, 62, of Churdan was also westbound on 130th St in a 2002 Ford F150 and lost control and entered the ditch, rolling the truck. The estimated damage to the stock chopper was $4,000. The estimated damage the Chevrolet impala was $5,000. The estimated damage to the Ford F150 was $4,000. The drivers of the car and truck were taken the Greene County Medical Center with minor injuries. Paton fire department, and Greene County Ambulance responded to the scene.
Saturday, Oct. 8: At 8:05 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 and J Ave west of Jefferson. Thomas Johnson, 53, of Scranton struck a deer with a 2022 Chevrolet Equinox. The estimated damage to the vehicle was $8,000. At 8:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint from a pilot of a person shining a laser into the cockpit of the plane.
Friday, Oct. 7: At 10:18 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 1200 block of Head St in Churdan. At 10:55 pm a deputy assisted the Iowa State Patrol with a traffic stop with several juveniles with alcohol on 190th St near M Ave in Bristol Township.
Thursday, Oct. 6: At 10 am the K-9 units of the Greene and Guthrie County sheriff’s offices conducted a search of the Paton-Churdan School. At 11:15 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2300 block of 130th St in Paton Township. At 3:21 pm a deputy arrested Nicole Sage, 55, of Grand Junction on a warrant for operating while intoxicated- first offense*. At 9:49 pm a deputy assisted with cattle out on J Ave near 140th St in Highland Township.

Monday, Oct. 3: At 6:50 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on S Avenue south of 195th St in Hardin Township. Linn Cipperley-Price, 56, of Paton struck a deer with a 2014 Ford Flex, causing an estimated $50 damage to the vehicle. Larry Hovick, 47, of Jefferson showed up to collect the deer and was cited for driving while license suspended.
Sunday, Oct. 2: At 12:49 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 30 near D Ave west of Scranton. A search was conducted of the car and marijuana, THC gummies, and suspected methamphetamine were located in the vehicle. Christian Riley, 31, of Carroll was cited for speed; additional charges are pending lab results. At 3:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of animal neglect in the 700 block of Lincoln St in Scranton. At 7:06 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson police department with a domestic call on E. Perry St in Jefferson.
Saturday, Oct. 1: At 8:59 pm a deputy removed a deer from the roadway on Highway 4 near 260th St south of Jefferson.
