Police blotter – October 2022

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:

Sunday, Oct. 30: At 1:24 am an officer was requested to assisted Greene County jailers with several arrestees. The officer assisted as requested. At 1:09 pm an employee at A&W reported a small child walking near the store. An adult was not with the child, who appeared to be in distress. The officer located the child and guardians. The officer is investigating. At 6:29 pm a complainant reported criminal mischief to a vehicle. The officer is investigating. At 7:48 pm an officer arrested Royce Gonnelly of Jefferson on an outstanding Greene County arrest warrant for failure to serve jail time*.

Saturday, Oct. 29: At 10:10 am an officer was advised of a dog running at large in the 500 block of W. Stanford St. The dog was caught and taken to the animal holding facility. At 8:48 pm an officer removed a deceased deer from the roadway in the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way. At 9:57 pm an officer took a complaint of theft in the 300 block of E. Lincoln Way. The officer is investigating. *****As the result of an investigation that began 8/30, Eric Rosenow of Jefferson was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

Friday, Oct. 28: At 12:12 pm an officer was called to the 500 block of S. Cedar St. in regard to a criminal mischief. A Halloween decoration had been vandalized.

Thursday, Oct. 27: At 3:45 pm an officer was called to Ace Hardware in regards to a theft (fraudulent check). The officer is investigating. At 5:11 pm a traffic stop at S. Elm and W. Madison Sts resulted in Truemon Phillips of Albia being arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia*. He was also cited for a registration violation and failure to have a commercial driver’s license.

Sunday, Oct. 23: At 5:40 pm an officer stood by with a downed power line in the alley of the 300 block of S. Wilson Ave. Alliant Energy arrived to fix the issue.

Saturday, Oct. 22: At 2:11 pm an officer performed a traffic stop on a driver with a sight obstruction near Highway 30 and N. Elm St. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Jay Dolliver Orsack, 55, of Churdan for operating while intoxicated (serious misdemeanor)*. He was also cited for open container- passenger. At 10:29 pm a complainant reported a driver had just driven through Washington Park. The officer checked and found no damage at the park and is investigating the event.

Friday, Oct. 21: At 3:09 am an officer performed a traffic stop with a speeding driver at S. Elm and Park Ave S. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Sefan Kinfer, 44, of St. Joseph, MO for operating while intoxicated (serious misdemeanor)*. He was also cited for excessive speed and fail to provide proof of financial liability. At 5:27 pm a complainant reported a subject burning yard waste in the 700 block of W. Lincoln Way. The complainant was concerned as Greene County is currently in a burn ban. The officer located the fire and advised the subject of the current burn ban. The fire was extinguished. At 5:36 pm a caller advised of leaves being burned in the 800 block of S. Chestnut St. The officer located the home owner and advised of the current burn ban.

Thursday, Oct. 20: At 8:08 am an officer was dispatched to Greene County Middle School for a student found in possession of a “vape” device. The officer issued a citation to the minor student for person under age 21 using tobacco / vapor product.  At 10:57 am the Ames police department requested the assistance of the Jefferson PD with an ongoing investigation involving a person living in Jefferson. The officer assisted as requested. *****As a result of an investigation initiated 9/09, Kaylin Small of Jefferson has been charged with possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*. *****As a result of an investigation initiated 9/09, Jude McIntire-Reynolds has been charged with possession of marijuana (serious misdemeanor) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*.

Wednesday, Oct. 19: At 12:10 pm an officer was called to Elm St. and Central Ave for a property damage vehicle collision. Eden Murphy of Jefferson was operating a 2004 International Dumpt Truck owned by Andrew Murphy of Jefferson. She had been stopped on Central Ave facing west at the intersection with Elm St. David Clifton of Jefferson was driving his 2018 Ford F150 pickup truck. He stopped directly behind  Murphy’s vehicle. Murphy began to back up the truck to make room for a semi tractor-trailer driver who was turning onto Central from Elm, but she struck Clifton’s vehicle. Murphy was cited for unsafe backing upon highway. Her vehicle was not damaged. Damage to Clifton’s truck was estimated at $3,000. At 12:28 pm an officer was called to a business parking lot in the 500 block of N. Elm St for a vehicle-pedestrian accident. John Lindgren of Jefferson pulled his 2018 Chrysler Pacifica into the parking lot but in doing so, his vehicle made slight contact with an employee of the business. The employee received possible minor injuries. The vehicle was not damaged. At 12:30 pm an officer arrested Eric Chrystal of Jefferson on Greene County arrest warrants for possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 6:38 pm an officer was called to the 600 block of W. Lincoln Way for three dogs running at large. The officer located the dogs and contacted the owner, who subsequently returned them to their home. As a result of the complaint, Tammy Tolsdorf of Jefferson was issued three citations for animal running at large.

Tuesday, Oct. 18: At 12:14 am an officer was called to a residence in the 800 block of S. Chestnut St. in regard to an activated carbon monoxide alarm. The officer stayed with the residents until Alliant Energy arrived and took control of the situation. At 6:25 pm an officer spoke to a Jefferson resident in regard to a juvenile that could not be located. The officer spoke to several people believed to be known by the juvenile. The juvenile was subsequently located and safely returned to the parent.

Monday, Oct. 17: At 8:55 pm a complainant reported possible harassment. The officer is investigating. At 9 am a complainant reported possible harassment. The officer is investigating. At 9:17 pm a resident reported water leaking from the ground near Russell Park. The officer located the water leak in the 400 block of S. Chestnut St . The city water department was advised of the issue. *****As a result of an investigation started on 8/03, Eric William Chrystal was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sunday, Oct. 16: At 1:50 pm an officer assisted the sheriff’s office with the execution of a search warrant at 108 East Central. The sheriff’s office is conducting the investigation. At 2:55 pm a complainant reported the theft of mower tires and parts from his mower in the 400 block of S. Oak St. The complainant provided the officer with a suspect and the officer is investigating. At 3:30 pm an officer was called to 305 N. Wilson Ave for the reported smell of burning marijuana. The officer is investigating.

Saturday, Oct. 15: At 9:30 pm a caller advised as she was sitting in her vehicle at HyVee another driver stopped in front of her. A male subject in the back seat of the vehicle showed his buttocks through the rear window and then they left the area. The officer is investigating.

Friday, Oct. 14: At 12:27 am an officer was called to 305 N. Wilson Ave for a reported smell of burnt marijuana in the apartment complex. The officer could not determine which apartment the smell was coming from. The investigation continues. At 1:33 pm an officer investigated an accident at Heartland Bank. Larry Gustoff was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu owned by Rebecca Logan of Carroll when he struck a large landscaping boulder. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $2,500. At 4:48 pm a complainant reported a juvenile damage her vehicle by kicking it in the parking lot at Greene County High School. The officer is investigating. At 7:07 pm a Jefferson officer was requested to assist deputies with a bank alarm in Scranton. All was determined to be fine at the business upon arrival.

Thursday, Oct. 13: At 12:23 pm an officer was called to the 100 block of W. Reed St. regarding a harassment issue. The officer is investigating. At 7:16 pm an officer was called again called to the 100 block of W. Reed St in regarding a harassment issue. The officer is investigating.

Wednesday, Oct. 12: At 10:57 pm a complainant reported a stray dog in the 300 block of Edgewood Ave. The officer picked up the dog and transported it to the animal holding facility. At 12:46 pm a complainant in Marysville, OH, reported a theft of property having originated in Jefferson. The officer is investigating. At 10:50 pm security staff at Wild Rose Casino requested assistance removing a customer from the property. Upon arrival the officer was shown to the customer, identified as Perry Edholm of Arcadia. It was reported Edholm was told to leave the property by staff due to his suspected intoxication and disruptive behavior. The officer investigated and as a result, Edholm was placed under arrested for trespass, interference with official acts, and public intoxication (all simple misdemeanors)*. *****As a result of an investigation started on 7/29/22 Devon Bradley King of Jefferson was charged with unlawful possession of prescription drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver*.

Tuesday, Oct. 11: At 3:50 pm an officer was dispatched to the Greene County jail for a female on the property with an active Greene County arrest warrant. Candice Marie Ortiz was placed under arrest for fail to appear – driving while license barred*. At 4:25 pm a complainant reported harassment. The officer is investigating. ***** As a result of an investigation started on 8/12, Tanisha May  Dillinger of Jefferson was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia*. ***** As a result of an investigation started on 8/12, George Joseph Glasgow of Jefferson was charged with possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense and possession of drug paraphernalia*. ***** As a result of an investigation started on 8/12, Destiny Ann George of Jefferson was charged with possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of prescription drug, and possession of drug paraphernalia*.

Monday, Oct. 10: Routine activity reported.

Sunday, Oct. 9: At 11 pm an officer was called to the 500 block of E. Monroe in regards to a stray dog. The officer transported the dog to PAWS.

Saturday, Oct. 8: At an officer was called to Wild Rose Casino in regards to a subject on the property who had previously been banned. The officer issued a summons to appear on a charge of trespass to Jeffrey Specht of Coon Rapids.

Friday, Oct. 7: At 12:03 pm an officer was called to the 100 block of West State St. in regard to a possible “telephone scam”. The officer is investigating. At 6:01 pm an officer was called to the 200 block of S. Cedar St in regard to a vehicle that had been damaged. An officer investigated and determined that a 1997 Cadillac Seville, owned by Sarah Seibert of Perry, had been parked in the 100 block of S. Cedar St on 6 / 7. Sometime while it was parked, an unknown vehicle collided with it. The rear of the vehicle received approximately $500 damage.  At 6:54 pm an officer was given a stray dog that was found in the county. The dog was placed at PAWS.

Thursday, Oct. 6: At 9:49 pm staff at Sparky’s One Stop reported a subject had not returned to pay for his fuel bill after his check had been denied. The officer is investigating.

Wednesday, Oct. 5: At 9:22 am an officer arrested Sirjohn Daniel Wilder, 38, of Jefferson at the courthouse on outstanding Jefferson PD arrest warrants for harassment- second degree (aggravated misdemeanor) and assault- simple*. The warrants stem from an incident on 9/24 at the Super 8 motel. At 4:35 pm staff at Home State Bank advised of a counterfeit $20 bill which was in a local business deposit. The officer took custody of the bill to send to the Secret Service.

Tuesday, Oct. 4: At 12:11 pm a caller advised of a verbal fight occurring between a couple in the 300 block of N. Olive St. Officers arrived and spoke to the couple and learned that nothing physical had occurred. During the interaction, an officer saw a narcotic smoking device in plain view on a table. The officer seized the item for testing.

Monday, Oct. 3: At 7:58 am an officer investigated an accident at N. Elm and Central Ave. Tanner Hardman of Wall Lake was southbound on Elm driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi, owned by Schroeder Farming Inc. of Vail. A vehicle ahead of him signaled to turn left onto Central Ave. He advised he could not stop in time and attempted to switch lanes into the outside lane. Amy Purdie of Jefferson had just left the posted stop sign at Central Ave driving her 2013 Ford Econoline van and was turning to the south in the outside lane. The semi collided with the Purdie van. The semi received an estimated $500 in damage. The Purdie vehicle received disabling damage ($5000) and was towed from the scene. Hardman was cited for fail to stop in assured clear distance ahead. At 3:02 pm staff a Greene County Middle School reported a juvenile male had assaulted a teacher and left the school without permission to do so. The officer’s investigation led to the officer sending a juvenile charge for a 12-year-old male to the juvenile court for assault-simple. At 3:04 pm a complainant reported unauthorized withdrawals from her SNAP and FIP benefit cards. The officer is investigating. At 4:46 pm an officer was advised of an accident Westwood Drive and Lincoln Way. Katlynn Mechaelsen of Grand Junction was stopped in her 2021 Volkswagen Atlas on Lincoln Way at Westwood. The driver of a 2011 International semi owned by BLD Farms of Jefferson attempted to turn from Westwood onto Lincoln Way and contacted the Mechaelsen vehicle. The semi driver left the area after giving insurance contact information. The officer is investigating.

Sunday, Oct. 2: At 6:52 pm an officer was called to a residence in the 700 block of W. Harrison St for a report of possible criminal mischief damages. The officer is investigating. At 7:06 pm an officer was called to the 200 block of E. Perry St regarding a civil issue. The officer spoke to those involved and gave advice.

Saturday, Oct. 1: At 11:36 am an officer arrested Austin O’Connell of Jefferson, on a Greene County arrest warrant*.
