Ram sophomore Noah Hinote qualified for the State cross country meet with his 11th place finish at the Class 2A qualifying meet held in Shenandoah Thursday. Hinote’s time of 17.33.26 is a new record for the boys’ cross country program since the Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene teams merged in 2011.
In the state qualifying meet, the top three teams and the top 15 individuals in both the boys and the girls races qualify. The state meet will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, in Fort Dodge.
Other Ram finishes and time were Ethan Frederick, 27, 18:14.57; Gavyn Winters, 33rd, 19.11.11; Kolby Angell, 39th, 19:26.84, and Carter Hinote, 48th, 19:49.90.
The fastest boy’s time was 15:48.61, set by Aaron Fynnardt of Des Moines Christian. Five of the first nine finishers were Fynnardt’s teammates.
Boys team scores were Des Moines Christian, 21; Chariton 95; Clarinda 125; East Sac County 127; MV-AO-COU 128; Greene County 153; Southeast Valley 202; Shenandoah 229; Treynor 232; South Central Calhoun 244; Woodbury Central 286; Underwood 367, and West Central Valley 371.
The girls team had no state qualifiers. Senior Olivia Shannon was the first Ram across the finished line with a time of 23:45.69, in 30th place. Other Ram finishes and times were Autumn Stevens, 33rd, 24:04.13; Ava Minnehan, 50th, 26:22.54; Ava Jablonski, 56th, 26:52.06; and Leah McCormick, 73rd, 30:36.64.
The fastest girl’s time was Van Meter’s Claire Kelly, finishing the race in 19:24.12.
Girls team scores were Van Meter 37; Des Moines Christian 66; Clarinda 80; South Central Calhoun 110; Treynor 124; Woodbury Central 166; West Central Valley 212; MV-AO-COU 216; Greene County 242; Chariton 263; Shenandoah 273; Red Oak 320; and Southeast Valley 353.
