Save the date – Relay for Life is July 26

After laying low due to public health concerns during the Covid-19 pandemic, Relay for Life is returning to Greene County in a streamlined format.

The 2022 Relay for Life will be held Tuesday, July 26, from 4 to 6:30 pm as a companion event to the weekly farmers’ market in Jefferson.

Survivors will gather at 4 pm at the Greene County historical museum on E. Lincoln Way. Survivors who have not yet received an invitation but would like to participate can contact event leadership team chair Tori Riley at 515-370-3087, or American Cancer Society staffer Tina Coleman at Tina.Coleman@cancer.org.

Luminaries honoring survivors and loved ones who have died of cancer will be displayed along the path in the Thomas Jefferson Gardens. Luminaries can be purchased during the Relay or online at www.relayforlife.org/greenecountyiowa under the “Luminaria” tab.

A supper featuring grilled Italian chicken sandwiches or tenderloins will be served on the southeast corner of the courthouse grounds from 4:30 to 6:30 pm (or until the food runs out). Curbside meals will be available on the south side of the courthouse by calling 515-370-3087 during serving time. The free will donation supper will be the farmers market meal that week. HyVee and Junkyard Café are supper sponsors so all donations will benefit Relay for Life.

The Town and Country Band will perform summertime favorites on the courthouse lawn at 5:30 pm.

Those who wish to walk are welcome to walk the perimeter of the courthouse square or on the path at Thomas Jefferson Gardens.

Relay for Life T-shirts are available by online order only at https://relay-for-life-of-greene-county.spiritsale.com Shirts should be ordered before July 20 for delivery before July 26. All proceeds from the sale of T-shirts will benefit Relay for Life.

Teams and individual participants can register at www.relayforlife.org/greenecountyiowa. Autumn Larson is the team chair. Persons who want information about forming or registering a team can email her at alrelay1@gmail.com

“Our Relay leadership team is glad to be able to have an event that brings the community together to honor and remember cancer patients and their caregivers, and that raises money for the important work of the American Cancer Society,” Riley said. “We look forward to having many people at our Relay for Life July 26.”
