Garden Club selects ‘Yard of the Month’

In a quiet corner of her yard, Nancy Walker has combined treasured garden art with perennials for a charming and contemplative space.  At her home at 204 W. Russell St, an antique garden gate welcomes visitors as do large-leafed hostas Walker calls “elephant ears.”  Walker’s garden was selected as the June Yard of the Month by the Jefferson Garden Club.

A carpet of dark purple ajuga and bright yellow green sedum leads visitors to the memory garden. Pink and white peonies are ready to burst into bloom at any moment. Purple creeping phlox is already showing off. Perennial salvia and “Autumn Joy” sedum create a frame for the special peace pole Walker has tucked into the garden as a remembrance of her daughter Sheana Story.  An antique plow brought from a farm gives the corner a nostalgic look. Red barberry bush brings rich all-season color.
