“The guys were excited to wrestle at home and with it being our only guaranteed home competition this year we wanted to make it as big as possible.  Even though we talked about distractions and not letting the moment let us lose focus on what we were there to do, we as a team were not ready for our dual against Harlan,” noted coach Zach Beekman. “We knew it would be a close dual. We knew it would take bonus points. We knew every match was going to take six minutes of fight.

“Knowing all of these things, we did not execute the way we needed to or are capable of.  Harlan is a disciplined team and it showed in the end result.

“After having some time to reset, the guys went out against Perry and performed as we should have against Harlan. I was glad to see them bounce back after a tough loss, but more importantly, we needed to understand all of the things that were in our control against Harlan and we did not adequately prepare ourselves mentally and physically for that dual.

“Going forward and looking at Thursday we knew how important our preparation would be to our success,” added Beekman.

On Thursday, Greene County traveled to PCM to take on PCM and South Hamilton, winning against both teams.

The Rams beat PCM 51-30.

“I was very pleased with our performances as a team. Individually we will continue to refine our technique and knowledge of the sport,” praised Coach Beekman. “Both duals were a good performance after a disappointing night at home on Tuesday.

“Saturday we were originally going to go to Solon, but have yet to make it to that tournament in three years so we dropped out at the last minute and got into the Perry Tournament,” concluded Beekman. “Unfortunately, they had to cancel the Perry Tournament due to the weather, so we did not compete anywhere Saturday.”

The Rams were scheduled to compete again on Tuesday at Roland-Story High School, Friday at Nevada High School for the conference meet and Saturday at Urbandale High School.
