A private family funeral service will be held at the Scranton United Methodist Church for Warren Aughey Robson, age 95, of Jefferson, formerly of Scranton. He passed away January 17, 2022, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Pastor Joyce Webb will officiate at the service. Warren has donated his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program in Iowa City. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Scranton Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church in Scranton, P.O. Box 367, Scranton, IA, 51462 or to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 22324, New York, NY 10087 in memory of Warren.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton.
The son of Paul N. and Charlotte (Aughey) Robson, was born Sept. 28, 1926, in Carroll. He grew up on a farm south of Scranton and attended the Scranton Community Schools, graduating with the Class of 1944. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in animal husbandry in March of 1949. While attending Iowa State, Warren was active in the instrumental music program, playing slide trombone in marching band, concert band and the symphony orchestra. He was a member of a polka band which performed on the radio station WOI.
Warren was initiated into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, national honorary music fraternity, and became a life member. He was also initiated into Block and Bridle, an animal husbandry organization. Following graduation at Iowa State, he returned to Scranton to farm with his father.
In January 1951, Warren enlisted into the United States Navy and was stationed at the Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base in Norfolk, VA. During his tour of duty he served on several ships and in October of 1954, he was honorably discharged. He then returned to Scranton to resume his occupation of farming, which he continued until ill health caused him to retire.
On July 27, 1951 he was united in marriage to Susan Manson in Norfolk, VA. To this union Timothy David, Allen Farrand and Martha Annetta were born. Susan passed away in November of 1994.
From the age of 12, Warren was a member of the United Methodist Church in Scranton. He served in many administrative positions in the church as well as singing in the choir for many years.
Warren was a 35 year member and Past Master of Golden Gate Lodge No. 402, A.F. & A.M.; Past Worthy Patron of Crescent Chapter No. 7, Order of the Eastern Star; Past Commander of American Legion Post No. 344; charter member and past president of the board of directors, Scranton United Charities; served as a director of the board of Greene County Pork Producers; was past president of the Greene County board of education; director on the board of Farmers Elevator Co-op; president of Scranton Music Parents; Republican precinct chairman; director on the board of Arrowhead Education Agency at its inception; president of the board of Greene County Sheltered Workshop; director on the board of Central Iowa Mental Health Center; and for many years on the board of directors of the Clarion-Webster Soil Association. Also, he was a life member of the American Legion and Veteran of Foreign Wars.
He had interest in old cars and, at one time, belonged to the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, the Buick Club of America, the Desoto Club of America, the Imperial Owners Club, the Oldsmobile Club of America and the WPC Club for Chrysler owners.
As a long time breeder of Shorthorn cattle, he was a member of the American Shorthorn Breeder’s Association for nearly 50 years.
On Jan. 3, 1996, he was united in marriage to Mildred Kroeger in Arcadia, and they made their home on the farm south of Scranton. Mildred passed away in March of 2014.
Warren is survived by his children Timothy (George Barnum) of Cleveland, OH, Allen (Cheryl) of Scranton, and Martha (Joe) Pierce of Polk City; four granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; stepson Terry Strathman of Carroll, IA; stepdaughter Becky Trotter of Boone; numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, and step-great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Susan and Mildred, and his parents.
