Your Life Iowa – No judgment, just help

New Opportunities knows the holidays can be a tough time. The added activities and expenses can be very taxing for some people. It is a busy time of year with added stressors of the holidays. Family and work expectations may be higher as the year comes to a close. Where has the time gone? It appears we just rolled in the new year and here we are again, anticipating another holiday season.

This time of year is not always happy for some people. The loss of a loved one, financial stress, or travel restrictions can pose a problem for some people as well as increased depression and anxiety. If you or a loved one are facing a problem, remember, there is help available when you need it. Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has created YourLifeIowa.org so Iowans can chat live, text, or call and get reliable information and treatment options, and find nearby help. Your Life Iowa is a free of charge, “one stop shop” for problems with alcohol, drugs, gambling, nicotine, mental health, and suicidal thoughts. YourLifeIowa.org can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. There are options to chat online, text (855-895-8398), or call (855-581-8111) to speak to a trained counselor. There is no judgment, and services are completely confidential. Give it a try!

New Opportunities Substance Abuse Treatment and Prevention Departments offer information, education, and consultation services to schools, businesses, and community-based groups, many of which are free of charge due to funding from the IDPH Integrated Provider Network, with services funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health and the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
