National 4-H Week, Oct. 3-9

The anticipation is building for National 4-H Week, during which millions of youth, parents, volunteers and alumni across the country will celebrate everything 4-H. Greene County 4-H will observe National 4-H Week this year by showcasing the incredible experiences that 4-H offers young people and will highlight the remarkable 4-H youth in our community who work each day to make a positive impact on those around them.

The theme of this year’s National 4-H Week is Find Your Spark, which highlights how 4-H encourages youngsters to take part in hands-on learning experiences in areas such as health, science, agriculture and civic engagement. The positive environment provided by 4-H mentors ensures that youngsters in every county and parish in the country  ̶  from urban neighborhoods to suburban schoolyards to rural farming communities  ̶  are encouraged to take on proactive leadership roles and are empowered with the skills to lead in life and career.

During National 4-H Week, Greene County 4-H volunteers and the Greene County Young Leader team will visit Greene County and Paton-Churdan 4th graders to tell them about 4-H and how to join.  Club and individual opportunities decorating store windows, a drawing for those who refer a new 4-H member, a drawing for those who wear their 4-H T-shirt, and a pumpkin decorating contest.

“4-H is a great organization to be a part of. We strive to teach leadership and communications skills to our youth for them to better contribute to our community in the future,” said Kayla Willms, Greene County youth & 4-H coordinator.

In Greene County, more than 150 4-H youth, 40 Clover Kid youth and 60 volunteers from the community are involved in 4‑H.

For longer than 100 years, 4‑H has inspired families, shaped careers, and impacted communities.
