Covid test positivity rate down some, but still ‘high’ by CDC guidelines

The Greene County public health department will begin administering booster doses Tuesday to persons who received the Pfizer vaccine and who meet some criteria. See an earlier post on GreeneCountyNewsOnline for more information.

Public health director Becky Wolf stresses that those recommendations are only for those who received the Pfizer vaccine. In addition to public health, Pfizer boosters may be available at Greene County Family Medicine, McFarland Clinic, or local pharmacies.

“Booster doses might be recommended in the future for those who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines,” Wolf said. “We anticipate in coming weeks that the CDC will move swiftly to evaluate data and make additional recommendations for other populations or people who received the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.”

The number of cases of Covid-19 continues to increase in the county, with 53 new cases diagnosed in the past week. The total number of cases is now 1,135. The seven-day positivity rate has declined to 10.6 percent, down from 13.4 percent a week ago. The level of community transmission is still rated “high”.

Free Test Iowa home kits are available at Greene County public health. Persons are asked to wait two days after the onset of symptoms to do a test, and to call ahead at 515-386-3228 to arrange for outdoor pick-up of the kit.
