Ceremonial ribbon-cutting held at RRVT bridge

A ribbon cutting was held Aug. 25 at the newly reopened bridge over the Raccoon River on the Raccoon River Valley Trail (RRVT) south of 252nd St south of Jefferson.

The bridge had been closed since March 2019, when large chunks of ice slammed against the wooden pilings, causing about 70 feet of the 600-foot bridge to collapse into the rivers. The repair was designed by WHKS Engineering.

Speakers at the ribbon cutting included RRVT board chair Sandy Lowe, Greene County conservation director Dan Towers, and columnist and former RRVT board member Chuck Offenburger.

Greene County elementary teacher and avid RRVT bicyclist Linda Henning had the honor of cutting the ribbon.
