Ram softball 4-14 on season

The Greene County softball team lost two games last week. They fell 6-3 at Prairie City-Monroe on Monday, June 21. The game in Jefferson with Manson-NW Webster was cancelled because of bad weather. Thursday the Rams hosted Saydel, the top team in the HOIC, falling 6-2. The South Hamilton Tournament on Saturday was cancelled due to soggy fields.

GC is 4-14 on the season, 3-8 in Heart of Iowa Conference standings. They started the week with a game in Harcourt against Southeast Valley on Tuesday. Tonight (Wednesday) the Rams travel to Nevada for a 7:15 pm clash. Friday, July 2, Ogden entertains Greene County beginning at 5:30 pm

Post-season play begins Tuesday, July 6, with Greene County pitted against Saydel who will host the game that starts at 7 pm.

PCM 6 ~ Rams 3

Greene County met Prairie City-Monroe in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action Monday night in Monroe. PCM took a 5-0 lead before the Rams scored two runs in the sixth. A Mustang run in the bottom of the sixth gave PCM a 6-2 lead. Greene County added a run in the seventh, but could add no more as the Mustangs won 6-3.

Emma Hoyle took the pitching loss despite a nine-strikeout performance. She allowed six runs, four earned, on five hits, walked four, and hit three batters. 

Greene County had six hits including a one-run double by Carmyn Paup, an RBI single by Emma Stream and a pair of singles by Alexa Peters to drive in a run. Olivia Shannon added two base hits.

Saydel 6 ~ Rams 2

League-leading Saydel held on to first place in the Heart of Iowa Conference with a win over Greene County Thursday night in Jefferson. The Rams went up 2-1 after one inning on a two-run double by Paup. The Eagles added two runs in the third, one in the fifth and two in the seventh to win 6-2.

Greene County tallied five hits. Paup’s double and a single and a double by Stream. Hoyle, Shannon and Peters added base hits.

Hoyle worked the mound for the Rams, allowing six earned runs on nine hits, including four home runs, five walks and four strikeouts.
