Greene County district court, week ending May 28

In Greene County district court Lawrence Xavier Knox, 25, of Emmetsburg was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He will be on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. A judgment was entered for a $430 civil penalty. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $339.10 court costs. A charge in magistrate court of possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B.

Todd Allan Grimsman, 35, of Fort Dodge was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- fourth degree, amended from burglary- third degree. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He was also fined $260 with a $39 surcharge on each of two counts of trespass. He must pay restitution not to exceed $1,000 for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $220. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: James Kenneth Harris, 34, of Woodward, domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense; Christopher Jon Hefler, 46, of Ogden, gambling- false claim of winnings; James Martin Moreland Jr, 46, of Perry, ongoing criminal conduct- influence enterprise, possession of methamphetamine; Melissa Jo Hefler, 46, of Boone, gambling- false claim of winnings; Jamie Lynn Solt, 32, of Fort Dodge, operating while intoxicated; and Victoria Leigh Ann Gordon, 21, of Jefferson, indecent contact with child, lascivious acts with child- permit/cause child to fondle. Trial dates for Harris, Moreland, Solt and Gordon were set for July 20. Christopher Hefler’s trial date was set for Aug. 10; Melissa Hefler’s trial date was set for Aug. 24.

Cases were initiated in district court as follows: Travis Austin Smith, 20, of Churdan, driving while license barred; Darren Scott Lehrkamp, 28, of Scranton, criminal mischief- third degree; and Bobby Jo Harrison, 20, of Fort Dodge, driving while license barred.
