Ram boys soccer split in recent action

The Greene County boys soccer team defeated Prairie City-Monroe 7-0 May 2 at Karber Field in Grand Junction. The Rams are now 8-3 on the season.

Scoring goals for the Rams, who are tied for ninth place in the Class 1A rankings, were Alex Roberts and Jose Velazco with two each, and one apiece from Nate Black, Nathan Behne, and Chris Villalobos. The goals were the first of the season for Black and Villalobos. 

The shut-out was the second straight for the Rams and fourth of the season. PCM was a coed team, the first time this season Greene County has played with both girls and boys in the lineup.

Greene County entered a tournament in Nevada with teams from Marshalltown, Perry, DM Hoover, Gilbert, Iowa City Regina, Kuemper and the hosts. 

The Rams lost 1-0 to Iowa City Regina, who is tied for second place in the Class 1A rankings, then lost 4-0 to Gilbert, a Class 2A top 20 team. They won their final match 2-0 over Kuemper Catholic. The goals against the Knights came from Alex Roberts and Jose Velazco. Nathan Behne had an assist.

Coach Carl Behne’s Rams are rated number 12 in 1A and are 9-5 overall. 

The Greene County girls soccer team participated in a tournament in Creston May 8. Panorama scored eight goals in the first half and two in the second to defeat the Rams 10-0. Creston scored four goals in the second half for a 4-0 victory over GC. Greene County played without two starters and was missing five players in all.
