Esther Ann Scheuermann was the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Hastings) Scheuermann.  She was born January 11, 1937. She passed away at her farm home on February 19, 2021, at the age of 84 years and went home to be with her Lord.

Esther was born in a farmhouse south of Cooper, and from there her folks moved to Mrs. Swigert’s farm by Winkleman Switch.  She graduated from 8th grade country school, with graduation ceremonies held at the old Methodist church in Jefferson.  From there she attended Cooper High School and graduated in 1955.

Esther was united in marriage to the love of her life, Larry G. Monthei, at the First Methodist Church in Jefferson on Oct. 2, 1955. Four children were born to this union: Theresa, Tommy, who died at birth, Jody, and Larry Dean.

Esther was a loving and compassionate mother and wife, a caring friend, and a devout member of the Cooper Methodist Church. She helped Larry farm for 65 years. Esther loved to cook and garden. Later she learned to decorate cakes and she loved the challenge of it as each cake was somewhat different. It was a joy for Esther to watch her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Hazel Scheuermann; infant son Tommy; brothers and sisters Ralph (Donna) Scheuermann, Darwin (Rosie) Scheuermann, Betty (Jerry) Day, Jerry (Ramona) Scheuermann, Marion (Danny) Monthei, Bob (Irene) Scheuermann, Larry Scheuermann, Sharon (Lance) Webb; and sister-in-law Sandy Scheuermann.

Esther is survived by her husband Larry; children Theresa (Gary) Subbert; Jody (Craig) Hoskins, and Larry Dean (Tasha) Monthei; 13 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Jan Scheuermann; brothers Vern (Margaret) Scheuermann and Gary Scheuermann; many other loving relatives and friends.

She always had a smile and was always seen laughing.  We were so blessed to have her in our lives.

The family is assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson, 515-386-2171.
