Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Jefferson police department:
Sunday, Jan. 31: *****An officer has requested an arrest warrant after completing a theft investigation at a residence in the 1600 block of Westwood Dr which was initiated 1/28. The requested warrant is for Edward Lee Goff, 19, of Jefferson for theft- third degree (aggravated misdemeanor)*.
Saturday, Jan. 30: At 10:55 am Andy Carman reported while shopping at Jefferson Ace Hardware someone damaged his company vehicle and left the scene. The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado K150 is owned by Farm Credit Services of America. Carman returned to the vehicle and noticed damage on the side. The officer estimated the damage at $500. The officer is working to locate the other vehicle involved. At 1:55 pm a complainant requested officers at a residence in the 400 block of N. Locust St for her two adult daughters fighting in the front yard. The officers arrived and separated the two sisters. The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of Shon Renae Blake, 55, of Jefferson for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon (aggravated misdemeanor) and domestic abuse assault (simple misdemeanor)*.
Friday, Jan. 29: At 10:37 am an officer had a vehicle towed from the 500 block of S. Olive St to the city impound lot. The owner of the vehicle has been in violation of numerous city ordinances.
Thursday, Jan. 28: At 9:18 am staff at Casey’s General Store reported a juvenile attempting to purchase vaping products with a fake identification card. The officer is working to speak to the youth about the incident. At 10:14 am staff at Casey’s reported finding a marijuana cigarette lying on the floor in the store. The officer took possession of the narcotic and is reviewing video to see if he can determine who dropped the item. At 3:23 pm a complainant advised that on school days, the traffic back-up of parents dropping off children at the elementary school blocks her private business driveway in the 600 block of S. Cedar St. Officers will watch for the issue and ask for assistance from parents not to block driveways and intersections in the area. At 6 pm an officer began an investigation of burglary and theft at a residence in the 1600 block of Westwood Drive. A large sum of cash had been removed from the residence. There is video evidence of the event that has developed two male suspects. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Jan. 27: At 11:44 am an officer investigated a property damage accident at N. Elm and W. Clark Sts. Christine Rasmussen of Le Mars was northbound in the inside lane of Elm St driving a 2020 International semi-tractor and trailer owned by Shuster Company, also of Le Mars. She had her turn signal activated to turn right onto Clark St, but had to start the turn from the inside lane to get the trailer to track around the turn. As the driver turned right onto Clark, she struck another northbound vehicle in the inside lane heading north on Elm. The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was owned and operated by Amanda Clark of Jefferson. The semi had a reported $4,500 in damages, while damage to Clark’s vehicle was estimated at $6,000. The officer is still investigating, and citations are possible at this time.
Tuesday, Jan. 26: *****Test results are back on items seized during the execution of a search warrant on a vehicle in impound on 01/12. The officer has requested arrest warrants for Jason Edward Trotter, 47, of Perry, Nicholas Joseph White, 40, of Newton, and Sharlee Jean Royce, 30, of Grinnell for possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense (Class D felony) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*.
Monday, Jan. 25: At 1:44 pm a complainant reported issues with a male at a residence in the 100 block of E. Monroe St. Officers responded to the residence and investigated the disturbance. The parties decided it was best for the male to leave the residence for the time. At approximately 4 pm, family of the male came to the Greene County Law Enforcement Center with the male. Suspected methamphetamine was located on him at that time. Steven Dzuris, 33, of Jefferson was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance- second offense*. At 3:54 pm a complainant requested an officer at a residence in the 300 block of E. Perry St for a mailbox having been struck by a snowplow. The officer is investigating.
Sunday, Jan. 24: At 10:59 pm an officer performed a traffic stop W. Lincoln Way and Grimmell Rd. During the stop, the officer learned the couple in the vehicle had an active no contact order out of Boone County. The officer arrested Sheldon Gene Boswell, 24, of Perry and Shera Dean Anderson, 27, of Jefferson for violation of no contact order (simple misdemeanor)*. Boswell was also cited for driving while license suspended.
Saturday, Jan. 23: At 2:10 am an officer assisted a deputy with a single-vehicle accident on County Road E-53 west of S Ave. The deputy handled all charges in the matter. At 10:34 pm staff at Regency Park advised of drivers doing “donuts” in the parking lot there. The officer stopped a young driver and issued him a written warning for careless driving.
Friday, Jan. 22: At 12:30 pm a complainant reported a phone scam call. She was advised her identity had been compromised and instructed to go to Dollar General and purchase a pre-paid card. She realized it was a scam and did not follow the instructions. She did not incur a loss. At 5:20 pm an officer investigated a backing accident in the 1200 block of Rushridge Road. Gary Harrison of Jefferson was backing his 2017 Ford F250 pickup truck from a private drive when he struck a parked 2010 Nissan Rouge owned by Julia Follett of Jefferson. Damage to each vehicle was less than $300.
Thursday, Jan. 21: At 11:33 am an officer checked with a subject after dispatch received an abandoned 911 call from the subject’s cell phone. The subject was fine and having phone issues. At 1:26 pm a complainant reported a burglary at a residence in the 700 block of W. Harrison St. An exterior door had been kicked open and another locked door inside the residence had been kicked open. It is unknown at the time of the report if anything is missing. The officer is investigating.
Wednesday, Jan. 20: At 4:41 am an officer assisted a deputy with a high speed chase northbound on Highway 4. The deputy locked the vehicle’s speed at 80 mph while going north on the overpass on N. Elm St and began to pursue the vehicle. The chase ended in Webster County after the fleeing driver left the roadway and the vehicle flipped several times. Three juveniles were injured and taken by ambulance from the scene. The deputy will handle any charges coming from the matter. At 7:30 am a complainant advised of an abandoned bicycle in the 300 block of E. Washington St. The officer placed the bike in the impound lot.
Tuesday, Jan. 19: At 5:08 am an officer investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Oakland Ave east of Jefferson. Nicholas Nelson of Jefferson struck a deer while driving a 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, owned by Dunkers by Matt. The vehicle incurred a reported $4,000 in damages. At 12:53 pm an officer investigated a collision at the gas pumps at Casey’s General Store. Joseph Turner of Jefferson attempted to pull his 2006 Ford F150 pickup up to a pump but struck a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu parked at the pump. The car is owned by Kevin Kafer of Jefferson. Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $200.

Sunday, Jan. 17: At 7:45 am staff at Greene County Medical Center ER advised a committal patient was walking away from 1000 West Lincoln Way. The officer located the subject and returned them to ER. At 10:35 am staff at Dollar General reported criminal mischief. The exterior wall on the west (alley) side of the building had been spray painted. The officer is checking with surrounding businesses to learn if any video of the event is available. At 8:26 pm a mother reported her two juvenile daughters were in Jefferson over the weekend staying with a friend. Her daughters had advised her that two males in Jefferson had threatened them with a knife while driving around with them. The officer is investigating. At 9:01 pm staff at Wild Rose Casino requested an officer there after discovering a subject in the casino who had barred himself from gambling in Iowa. The officer issued Ellas Enrique Alas Amaya a citation for trespass (simple misdemeanor)*. He was required to leave the casino.
Saturday, Jan. 16 At 9:50 am an officer was given information that a Jefferson couple with an active no contact order in effect were staying together at the Super 8 Motel. The officer went to the room and the female answered the door and advised the male was hiding in the bathroom. The officer arrested Ryan Douglas Patterson, 40, of Jefferson and charged him with violation of a no contact order (simple misdemeanor)*. The officer reviewed video from the motel and learned that Patterson had been staying at the room with the female for some time. The video shows the female coming and going on numerous occasions, which contradicts her version of events she gave the officer. Charges are pending at this time for the female. Patterson also has numerous other arrest warrants and violation of probation warrants at this time to face. At 3:52 pm a caller advised a snow removal company had pushed a large amount of snow into the roadway and left it in the 1100 block of McDuffie Drive. The officer spoke to the homeowner, who called the snow removal company to come back and remove the snow from the roadway.
Friday, Jan. 15: At 7:28 am a city public works employee caught a stray dog at Chestnut and E. Lincoln Way. An officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 12:31 pm a caller advised a DOT snowplow had knocked a sign down in the 600 block of S. Elm St. The DOT was notified as it is a state road. At 1:39 pm a resident reported she had caught a stray dog in the 700 block of Pinet Place. An officer placed the dog in the animal holding facility. At 3:57 pm an officer was advised of an event that had occurred at Dollar General. A customer had been shopping at the business and had placed some items on the floor to look at other items. A young child was present with his parents and kicked the items. The male attempted to speak to the young child about his actions, which angered his parents. An argument had occurred, and all parties left the business. The officer spoke to all parties involved. There were claims from the young boy’s parents that the male placed his hands on the child. The officer spoke to the cashier at the business and viewed video of the event. The officer located no evidence to support that the child had been touched by the male customer. At 4:33 pm a complainant reported a burglary to a shop in the 700 block of N. Wilson Ave. Subject(s) had gained entry through a locked door and removed tools from the building. The officer has suspects in the burglary and is investigating.
Thursday, Jan. 14: At 7:16 am a complainant reported harassing phone calls from a Jefferson female. The officer spoke to the female, who produced threatening messages from the complainant to her. Both parties were advised by the officer to end contact with the other. ***** An officer has requested arrest warrants after completing the investigation of an assault reported the previous day. The warrants for Ryan Douglas Patterson, 40, of Jefferson are for domestic abuse assault- serious, tampering with a witness (aggravated misdemeanor), harassment- first degree (aggravated misdemeanor), and violation of a protective order (simple misdemeanor)*.
Wednesday, Jan. 13: At 7:30 pm a complainant reported she had been assaulted by her estranged boyfriend while at a residence in the 500 block of S. Walnut St. The subject involved already has numerous arrest warrants for past assaults against the complainant. The officer is investigating the reported assault.
Tuesday, Jan. 12: At 2:39 am the owner of Durbin Automotive called and advised he had three subjects cutting catalytic convertors off his vehicles. He witnessed one subject under the vehicle and could hear a power tool running. The officer arrived and Brett Durbin advised the three subjects had walked towards the southwest before the officer arrived. The officer and a deputy located three subjects near a parked vehicle in the 400 block of W. McKinley St. While speaking with the subjects, the officer saw a battery powered Sawzall in the vehicle. The investigation led to the arrest of the three subjects. The catalytic convertors from three vehicles at Durbin Automotive were recovered from inside the vehicle, along with three battery-operated reciprocating saws and other tools used in the theft. Jason Edward Trotter, 47, of Perry, along with Nicholas Joseph White, 40, of Newton, and Sharlee Jean Royce, 30, of Grinnell have been charged with theft- second degree (Class D felony), possession of stolen property (Class D felony), criminal mischief- fourth degree (serious misdemeanor) and trespass causing more than $300 in damage (serious misdemeanor)*. Officers applied for a search warrant for the vehicle to gather additional evidence. Officers executed the search warrant at about 5:05 pm at the impound lot and recovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Charges will be filed against all three in the near future for the narcotics. At 12:56 pm staff at Greene County Medical Center emergency department requested an officer for a female patient who had been assaulted by a male. The officer is investigating the assault.
Monday, Jan. 11: At 11:10 am a complainant reported that while cleaning out a garage for an estate sale in the 700 block of Rushview Drive, she located an old EMS kit containing several types of prescription meds. The officer took possession of the kit and properly disposed of the medications and sharps. At 2:19 pm while on patrol an officer located a motorcycle driver spinning his tires in the 100 block of S. Vine St. The officer spoke to the subject, who advised he was doing a burnout as a tribute to his deceased friend’s funeral service. The officer advised him that was unacceptable and to end the behavior immediately. The subject left the area. At 4:48 pm a complainant reported his juvenile son was walking near N. Chestnut and E. State Sts and was chased by a stray dog. He advised he was unsure which direction the dog ran away. The officer checked this area of town and did not locate the reported animal. At 5 pm a complainant reported the theft of a gift card sometime in the past seven years. The officer is working to gather further information. At 10:51 pm a complainant reported the theft of items from a residence in the 700 block of W. Harrison St. She reported that jewelry, cell phones and gel pens were taken from her locked bedroom and suspects a family member. The officer is investigating.

Friday, Jan. 8: At 11:20 am officers and deputies assisted a DHS case worker at a residence in the 200 block of N. Locust St. Whitney Jean Campbell-Perez, 23, of Jefferson was placed in custody on two outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear*. Ryan Joseph Murphy, 39, of Jefferson was arrested for interference with official acts (simple misdemeanor)*. At 11:48 am an officer began an investigation with DHS of a sex assault abuse involving three Jefferson juveniles.
Thursday, Jan. 7: At 6:30 pm staff at Sparky’s One Stop reported a stray dog at the business. The officer caught the animal and placed it in the animal holding facility. At 9:59 pm an officer spotted a wanted subject at HyVee. The officer arrested Ryan Joseph Murphy, 39, of Jefferson on an outstanding Dallas County warrant for failure to appear on a charge of possession of methamphetamine.

Tuesday, Jan. 5: At 11:45 am an officer began investigating a theft that occurred 12/21 in the 400 block of W. Head St.

Sunday, Jan. 3: At 1:39 am an officer spoke with juveniles parked at the middle school. He advised them of the hours of curfew and sent them home. At 9:29 pm staff at Sparky’s One Stop requested an officer there to remove a male customer, who was causing a disturbance. The officer learned the male subject was attempting to get to Ames. A deputy transported the subject to the Boone County line.
Saturday, Jan. 2: At 11:27 am a complainant reported a burglary to a garage in the 300 block of N. Chestnut St. He was in the process of moving from the residence, but still had items there. Several tools, a weed eater and a necklace were missing. The officer is investigating.
Friday, Jan. 1: During a traffic stop at Highway 30 and N. Elm St, the officer learned the driver was barred. The officer arrested Danielle Janette Dalton, 37, of Jamaica for driving while license barred (aggravated misdemeanor)*. At 1:40 pm an officer investigated a rear end collision on Olive St at the intersection with Park St. Mark Cranston of Jefferson was southbound on Olive driving his 2016 Chevrolet G3500 van. Lola Booth of Madrid was following him driving her 2005 Buick Century. When Cranston slowed his vehicle at Park St Booth collided with it. She was cited for failure to stop within assured clear distance ahead. Damage to the front of her vehicle was estimated at $1,500. Damage to the rear hitch on Cranston’s van was estimated at $150. At 4:15 pm a complainant reported he had given his banking information to a scam caller. The officer advised him to contact his bank and advise them so they can change his account numbers and to watch his credit history for unauthorized activity. At 9:10 pm an officer investigated an accident involving a parked vehicle at W. Russell and S. Elm Sts. Jeremy Fister was southbound on Elm driving his 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe pickup truck. He turned east onto Russell but struck a 2016 Toyota Camry, owned by Justin Robbins of Jefferson, parked on the street. Damage to Robbins’ vehicle was estimated at $2,500. Damage to Fister’s vehicle was estimated at $1,500.
