The Greene County wrestling team traveled to Burnside Jan. 7 where they battled Audubon, Ogden and Southeast Valley. The Rams came away with two victories, defeating Audubon 60-12 and Ogden 51-23. They fell to the hosts, 53-24.
It was career victory number 50 for sophomore McKinley Robbins. The top ranked Class 2A wrestler at 120 pounds pinned all three of his opponents in the first period to improve to 15-0 this season and 52-2 in his career. Three other Rams, Brenner Gallagher (113), Brady Stauffer (138), and Nathan Black (152) went 3-0 on the night.
Greene County traveled to Webster City Saturday, Jan. 9, for a triangular meet with the hosts and Algona. The event was originally scheduled to be a dual tournament but was pared down to three teams. The Rams lost to Algona by three, 40-37, and by eight, 44-36, to the Lynx. GC stands at 9-8 on the season.
The Rams gave up four forfeits in each contest. McKinley Robbins (120) added two pins to his season tally. John Sprague (126) and Sawyer Schiltz (285) also had two pins. Brady Stauffer (138) and Nathan Black (152) were 2-0 on the day.
