Sheriff’s report – May 2020

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Saturday, May 30: At 9:30 am a deputy investigated a complaint of a barking dog in Grand Junction. At 2:21 pm a deputy assisted the Fort Dodge Residential facility with trying to located a resident that was in Scranton. At 5:10 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 8:30 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 800 block of Jay St in Churdan. David Hoyle, 34, of Churdan was arrested for assault while displaying a dangerous weapon.*

Friday, May 29: At 9:43 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 12:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of theft in the 600 block of S. 14th St in Grand Junction. At 5:08 pm a deputy investigated a hit and run accident in the 600 block of Madison St in Scranton. At 7:14 pm a deputy investigated an ATV accident at S. Park St and S. Main St in Paton. William Zollars, 63, of Paton was riding a 2015 Polaris Scrambler ATV operated by Kamron Zollars, 18, of Paton. Kamron turned the corner too fast and overturned the ATV. Both the driver and passenger were transported with serious injuries to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Ambulance. The Paton fire department also responded to the scene. Kamron Zollars was cited for failure to possess a valid driver license and an ATV highway violation. Damage to the ATV was estimated at $3,000. At 8:14 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 900 block of Main St in Scranton.  Tanisha Rice, 45, of Scranton was arrested for assault with intent to inflict serious injury, domestic abuse assault display or use a dangerous weapon- first offense, and a violation of a no contact order*. Jason Sheldahl, 49, of Scranton was arrested for domestic abuse assault- third offense and violation of a no contact order.* At 8:31 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 200 block of E. Hager St in Grand Junction.

Thursday, May 28: At 1:22 pm a deputy investigated a theft of plants from the Junction Township Cemetery. At 7:36 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespassing in the 1400 block of Falcon Ave in Scranton Township.

Wednesday, May 27: At 9:14 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 200 block of E. 2nd St in Grand Junction. At 9:43 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 100 block of N. College St in Paton.

Tuesday, May 26: At 7:52 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of S. 13th St in Grand Junction. At 8:03 pm a deputy assisted the Dallas County sheriff’s office with locating a subject in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 9:22 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of counterfeit money in Grand Junction.

Monday, May 25: At 5:42 pm a deputy investigated an assault in the 600 block of B Ave in Kendrick Township.

Sunday, May 24: At 1:13 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 800 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction.

Saturday, May 23: At 9:04 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 400 block of N. 18th St in Grand Junction. At 9:04 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 900 block of Cedar St in Scranton. At 2:21 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of S. 11th St in Grand Junction. At 5:27 pm a deputy assisted with locating a missing child in the 600 block of School St in Churdan. At 7 pm a deputy investigated a fireworks complaint in the 800 block of Percival St in Grand Junction.

 Friday, May 22: At 1:47 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 2400 block of Sherwood Ave in Franklin Township. At 11:56 pm the sheriff and deputies investigated a complaint of an underage party in the 500 block of 3rd St in  Rippey. Ten juveniles under the age of 18 were charged with possession of alcohol under age and a department of public health violation. Charity Snavely, 38, of Rippey was arrested for supplying alcohol to person under legal age, permit under 18 to consume alcohol on property, and a department of public health violation.* Fallon Heater, 18, of Perry, Angel Rivera, 18, of Perry, Jonathan Silva, 18, of Perry, Quincy Carey, 18, of Rippey, Marco Ortiz-Navarijo, 18, of Perry, Marvin Sarceno, 18, of Perry, Brano Burgos, 20, of Perry, Mahammed Belarbi, 18, of Perry, and Arnold Ayala-Gomez, 18, of Perry were arrested for a department of public health violation and possession of alcohol underage.* Conner Embrey, 21, of Rippey, and Nathaniel Pemberton, 21, of Des Moines were arrested for a department of public health violation.* 

Thursday, May 21: At 2:22 pm a deputy investigated a dog that was on the side of the road on Highway 4 near Churdan. The dog appeared to of been hit by a vehicle. At 5:53 pm the sheriff, deputies, Jefferson fire, Grand Junction fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a 2-vehicle accident on County Road P-46 (W Ave) and 230th St east of Grand Junction. David Darby, 30, of Boone was northbound on P-46 in his 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck. Caden Wilson, 19, of Churdan was eastbound on 230th St driving a 2007 GMC Sierra pickup truck.
Wilson failed to stop at the stop sign and struck Darby’s vehicle in the rear driver’s side, causing both vehicles to roll in to the ditch. Darby’s truck came to rest in the east ditch of P-46 about 150 feet from the intersection. Wilson’s truck came to rest on its top in the north ditch of 230th St. All persons involved were wearing their seat belts and had just minor injuries. No one was transported from the scene. Wilson was citied for failure to obey stop sign, failure to yield right away, and failure to stop in assured clear distance. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident. At 9:15 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. Cristin Calvert, 49, of Jefferson struck a deer with his 2011 Buick Lecerne, causing an estimated $3,000 damage.

Wednesday, May 20: At 1 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 800 block of 230th St in Jackson Township. Trent Murphy, 33, of Jefferson was arrested for domestic abuse assault (simple misdemeanor)*. At 3:29 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping on 310th St and K Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 6 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 600 block of T Ave in Paton Township.

Tuesday, May 19: At 11:32 am a deputy arrested Adam Harvey, 43, of Grand Junction on arrest warrants for possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine (serious misdemeanors) and possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)*.

Monday, May 18: At 12:30 am a deputy and a Boone County deputy tried to locate a reported fire near U Avenue and 330th St in Washington Township. At 6:44 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in Scranton. At 9:35 pm a deputy investigated a reported fight on Main St in Grand Junction.

Sunday, May 17: At 10:59 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 1500 block of 120th St in Dawson Township.

Saturday, May 16: At 6:56 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint at 185th Street and County Road N-58 (A Ave) in Kendrick Township. At 7:52 am a deputy assisted with a cow on Highway 30 at Hillcrest Ave west of Jefferson.  At 5:50 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of two vehicles on a sandbar at the Horse Shoe Bend river access.

Friday, May 15: At 3:25 am a deputy investigated a phone scam in Scranton. At 11:52 am a deputy investigated a dog bite in the 1000 block of W. Lincoln Way in Jefferson. At 2:23 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of S. 14th St in Grand Junction. At 4:33 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 200 block of 3rd St in Rippey. At 6:44 pm deputies conducted a search warrant for stolen property at 804 E. Main St in Grand Junction. Stolen property was located and charges are pending.

Thursday, May 14: At 3:16 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 900 block of Hager St in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, May 13: At 10:19 am a deputy assisted with getting two horses and donkey back to their residence in the 1400 block of County Road E-26 (170th St) in Hardin Township.

Tuesday, May 12: At 10:18 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 200 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 2:02 pm a deputy investigated complaint of illegal dumping in the 1500 block of 320th St in Franklin Township. At 2:07 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 600 block of S. 15th St in Grand Junction. At 6:09 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction. At 9:44 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a car being driven on the bike trail near Cooper.

Monday, May 11: At 12:34 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction. At 4:10 pm a deputy investigated a violation of a no contact order in Scranton

Sunday, May 10: At 11:16 pm a deputy assisted with a calf out on the roadway on 250th St and Highway 25 south of Scranton.

Saturday, May 9: At 11:09 pm a deputy arrested Luke Molle, 21, of Coon Rapids for OWI- first offense (serious misdemeanor)*.

Friday, May 8: At 7:16 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 300 block of Hill St in Churdan. At 2:08 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 700 block of State St Scranton. At 5:19 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of 4th St in Rippey. At 6:54 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of Howard St in Rippey.

Thursday, May 7: At 11:11 am a deputy picked up an injured cat in the 700 block of Lincoln St in Scranton and took the cat to the Jefferson Veterinary Clinic.

Wednesday, May 6: At 11:33 am a deputy investigated a theft at A Ave and 185th St in Kendrick Township. At 7:33 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 500 block of W. Main St in Grand Junction.

Tuesday, May 5: At 7:56 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief at 7 Hills Park in Jackson Township. At 9:08 am a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 1700 block of Quaker Ave in Grant Township. At 10:14 am a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 200 block of W. Hager St in Grand Junction. At 4:05 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass in the 200 block of S. 17th St in Grand Junction.

Monday, May 4: At 3:05 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 5:45 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 8:11 pm a deputy investigated major damage to a bridge on X Ave near 210th St east of Grand Junction. A witness observed a large 4-wheel drive tractor pulling a large field roller in the area. At 10:12 pm a deputy and the Jefferson fire department responded to a camper fire in the 2200 block of M Ave in Greenbrier Township. There were no injuries. The camper was a total loss. At 10:30 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of harassment in the 300 block of E. Paton St in Paton.

Sunday, May 3: At 8:19 am a deputy investigated a theft in the 2400 block of 337th St in Washington Township. At 12:22 pm a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Steven Dzuris, 32, of Jefferson for driving while license barred at Highway 30 and L Ave west of Jefferson. Dzuris fled in his vehicle reaching speeds of about 110 mph. The vehicle was spike stripped at Glidden by a Carroll County deputy. A Carroll Police Officer also spike stripped the vehicle just outside of Carroll. Dzuris came to a stop and was arrested for driving while barred, reckless driving, operating while under the influence- third offense, interference with official acts and eluding*.  At 1:03 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 300 block of 4th St in Rippey. At 2:47 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of trespass on County Road P-14 (J Ave) near Highway 30 west of Jefferson.

Saturday, May 2: At 6:59 am a deputy assisted with horse running at large in the 1100 block of County Road E-63 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. At 9:43 am a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 8:18 pm a deputy investigated a dog running at large in the 100 block of 3rd St in Rippey. At 9:47 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in the 300 block of S. 7th St in Grand Junction.

Friday, May 1: At 11:32 am a deputy investigated an assault in the 500 block of E. Main St in Grand Junction. At 12:51 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle in the 1400 block of Kirkwood Ave in Jackson Township. At 6:10 pm a deputy assisted with a field fire on 340th St near V Ave in Washington Township. The Rippey and Dawson fire departments responded to the fire. Rippey Fire and Dawson Fire responded to the fire.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged, this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
