POPPY DAY – The Friday before Memorial Day is National Poppy Day, on May 22 this year. It is sponsored by the American Legion Family to honor living veterans and those who lost their lives. The poppies are not sold  – they are distributed with a request that the person receiving the poppy donates to the poppy fund to support veterans outreach programs. The American Legion members hope many will wear a poppy for Poppy Day and Memorial Day.

COLLEGE GRADUATE – Ruth Consier’s grandson Jacob Mikkelson graduated from Concordia College in Seward NE. His parents are Jeff and Rita Mikkelson of Bellevue, NE. The ceremony was a virtual happening. His cousin Garion Consier recorded it for the local families to view and enjoy.

Ruth Consier attended Sunday worship services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Farnhamville May 10. It was held in the parking lot with an FM station broadcasting the audio signal to attendees who stayed in their cars. It was an innovative way to have the service and proves the ingenuity of those determined to have a “safe” gathering.

Garion and Morgan Consier hosted a brunch at their Churdan home after the service. Family members attending were Ruth Consier, Rich and Becky Consier and Autumn, and Johannes, Garion and Morgan’s baby boy who is about 7 months old now.  Garion, Morgan and Johannes had visited her parents in Holstein on Saturday to have a Mother’s Day celebration.  ~courtesy of The Scranton Journal
