Scranton city hall and the Scranton community center have a new look thanks to a $160,000 remodeling project funded in part by Grow Greene County.

The work is almost completed and the finishing touches will be finalized in the spring when warmer weather prevails.

The city of Scranton received a $60,000 competitive grant in April of 2019 to begin the work. The city also targeted its per-capital funds of $23,386 towards the project.

According to Dawn Rudolph, who has watched over the work, the remainder of the funding has been provided by the city, fundraising and donations.

“The repairs will be long lasting and were very much needed,” said Rudolph.

The work on city hall included a complete exterior renovation that includes new steel on the roof and sides and gutters. Nova brick was added from the base up three feet on the building sides.

Eyebrows were added above the main entrances which have new doors along with additional exterior lighting.

The furnace was also replaced.

The community center has a new roof installed on the second floor along with gutters to improve the water drainage.

The entrance to the Scranton Community Center on the south side of the building has been updated with a new door, eyebrow and hand rail. New siding has been installed along with brick on the lower three feet of the building. A new roof was installed on the second floor of the Community Center along with new gutters. The old brick walls will be tuck pointed and the facility will be power washed with a sealant applied.

There are some portions of the work that have not been completed but the crews will be back in the spring when warmer weather allows the finishing touches to be installed.
