Dominant pitching helps Rams run-rule Perry

Senior starting pitcher Austin Delp threw a no-hitter in five innings as the Greene County Rams baseball team won 10-0 and run-ruled the Perry Blue Jays in Jefferson Thursday night.

The Rams had just four hits, but the Blue Jays walked seven batters and hit two Ram batters with pitches, allowing Greene County to take control of the game. Tyler Teeples led the Rams with two RBIs and four players had a single RBI.

Delp kept Perry hitless and struck out 11 batters.

The Rams are now 2-0 on the season, with another non-conference game scheduled Friday night against South Hamilton (Jewell). The Blue Jays fell to 0-2.

Greene County opened the season on Monday with a 6-5 victory over Nodaway Valley. The Rams plated four runs in the fifth and one in the sixth. The Wolverines scored four in the sixth and rallied in the seventh for one run to tie the game. In the extra frame, Greene County plated the winning run. Teeples had two hits, including a double, to pick up an RBI. Freshman Bryce Stalder also rapped two hits.

Nick Breon started on the mound, tossing 5-1/2 frames. He gave way to Brent Riley who picked up the win. The duo allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits, six walks and struck out 14 batters.

The Rams collected six runs (five earned) off seven hits and used eight walks to their advantage. The team struck out six times.
