The Ram boys soccer team advanced to the Substate 8 finals with a 2-1 victory over the Riverside (Oakland) Bulldogs in Oakland Wednesday.
Ram coach Carl Behne called it a “hard fought match on tough field conditions,” and noted that two days of rain “were not kind to the Oakland field.”
The Bulldogs scored first but held the lead for only 45 seconds before Luis Velazco scored a goal for the Rams. The score was 1-1 at the intermission
The game remained tied until Junior Guttierez scored a goal with 11:30 to play in the match. “Our defense was very strong and held off many diagonal runs by Riverside,” the coach said. Cael Fisher’s play at the goal was critical, as he had 11 saves for the game.
The Rams (13-5) will face top seed, No 6 AHSTW (Avoca) (18-2) Saturday at 12 pm. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Riverside, but may be moved depending on field conditions.
