Paton-Churdan honors Class of 2019

The annual Paton-Churdan senior mentor banquet was held Thursday, May 16, at the Paton Community Room. Seniors, along with their parents and mentors shared a catered meal sponsored by Community State Bank of Paton and United Bank of Iowa- Churdan.

Paton-Churdan seniors each complete a portfolio that includes an essay explaining the life lessons learned from a particular adult. They read the essays, with their mentor beside them, at the banquet.

Scholarships and other awards were presented to seniors as follows:

• Iowa Bar Association Citizenship Award – Megan Carey, presented by county attorney Thomas Laehn
• Peoples Bank scholarship – Clay Smith, presented by Nikki Uebel and Derek Kennedy
• Churdan Lions Club – Megan Carey, presented by Connor Juergensen
• Lyle Graue Scholarship – Briana Jewett, Ariana Roper, Clay Smith presented by Libby Towers
• Edward English American Legion Post and Auxiliary – Jack Bryson, presented by John Lonergan
• Beta Tau Delta scholarship – Jenna Beyers, presented by Pat Rusnak

• David Higgins/Phillip Hoyle Memorial Scholarship – Briana Jewett, presented by Denny Tilley
• Paton-Churdan Education Association scholarship – Megan Carey, presented by Melanie Ludwig
• United Bank of Iowa scholarship – Jack Bryson, presented by Alex Schneider
• Home State Bank scholarship -Clay Smith, presented by Bob Allen
• University of Northern Iowa Distinguished Scholars Award and John & V Vermazen Scholarship – Megan Carey, presented by Libby Towers

• Lohr Foundation Scholarship – Megan Carey, presented by Libby Towers
• Morning Star Masonic Lodge scholarships – Briana Jewett and Jenna Beyers, presented by Don Hyndman
