Ram boys soccer team advances in tournament play

The Ram boys soccer team topped the Falcons of St Albert-Council  Bluffs, 7-1, in Grand Junction Monday to advance to the Class 1A Substate 8 semifinals on Wednesday.

The game was tight for the first half, with the Rams leading 1-0 at the intermission. The Rams put up four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half to build a more comfortable lead, and then scored once more before the Falcons scored their lone goal for a 6-1 score. The Rams  scored once more for the final 7-1 score.

Junior Gutierrez scored five goals, bringing his season total to 51 goals and maintaining his #1 spot in Iowa high school soccer. Austin Delp and Luis Velazco scored one goal each. Delp, Isaiah Losee, Gutierrez and Nathan Black were credited with one assist each.

Cael Fisher played all 80 minutes as goalkeeper and had five saves for the game.

The Rams (12-5) will play Riverside, Oakland (12-3) in Oakland Wednesday at 7 pm.  The winner of that game will face the winner of a match-up between AHSTW and Underwood in the 1A Substate 8 final next Saturday.
