Sheriff’s report – April 2019

Following are excerpts of activities reported by the Greene County sheriff’s office:

Tuesday, April 30: At 11:35 am a deputy investigated a driving complaint on Highway 30 near County Road P-46 (W Ave) east of Grand Junction. Joseph Faber, 27, of Wisconsin was arrested for operating while intoxicated- first offense and theft- first degree*. The 2015 Ford F150 pickup truck he was driving was stolen out of Story County. After Faber was brought to the jail he made an escape attempt, causing an estimated $3,000 damage to the facility. Faber was charged with attempted escape from custody and criminal mischief- fourth degree*.

Monday, April 29: At 11:34 am a deputy investigated a car- deer accident on Highway 144 near 270th St in Washington Township. Lisa Willis, 55, of Jefferson struck a deer with a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu, causing an estimated $3,000 in damage. At 1:24 p a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint at Y Ave and 260th St in Washington Township. At 8:10 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in Rippey. At 9:35 pm a deputy investigated a trash fire in Grand Junction.

Saturday, April 27: At 9:18 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a traffic stop at Highway 30 and N. Elm St.

Friday, April 26: At 8:11 pm a deputy investigated a trespassing complaint in Scranton.

Thursday, April 25: At 1:48 pm a deputy assisted with putting cattle back in the fence in the 2000 block of County Road E-26 (170th St) east of Dana. At 2:45 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Scranton. At 4:54 pm a deputy investigated a theft in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 24: At 2:19 pm the sheriff, a deputy, and the Jefferson fire department responded to a field fire in the 1100 block of County Road E-57 (290th St) in Greenbrier Township. At 4:17 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Rippey. At 4:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of identity theft in the 700 block of 300th St in Greenbrier Township. At 6:41 pm a deputy investigated suspicious activity in Scranton. At 9:55 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 600 block of N Ave. At 9:58 pm a deputy investigated an illegal burn in Grand Junction. At 10:57 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a possible underage party in the 2000 block of 295th St in Washington Township.

Tuesday, April 23: At 7:02 am a deputy, Jefferson fire, and Greene County Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 30 near Pioneer Ave east of Jefferson. Jon Nelson, 27, of Jefferson was following a Morton Buildings truck and trailer heading east on Highway 30. The sun was in Nelson’s eyes and he did not see the Morton truck and trailer slowing to turn and rear-ended the trailer. Nelson was cited for failure to stop in a assured clear distance. Damage to his 2003 Buick Lesabre exceeded value. Damage to the trailer was estimated at less than $500. At 5:01 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of criminal mischief in Scranton.

Monday, April 22: At 8:32 am a deputy assisted Carroll police department investigating an assault case. At 6:29 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Scranton.

Sunday, April 21: At 8:25 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of a possible intoxicated driver on 140th St. Stacy Michelle Stream, 33, of Jefferson was arrested for operating while intoxicated- first offense and child endangerment*.

Saturday, April 20: At 2:58 am deputy investigated a single vehicle accident in the 1600 block of Highway 20 south of Scranton. Tina Lair Van-Meter, 20, of Coon Rapids was northbound when she fell asleep, crossed lanes and went into the west ditch. The ditch caused her to vehicle to flip two times to where it came to a stop in the ditch. Greene County Ambulance transported Van-Meter to the Greene County Medical Center to be evaluated for complaints of head pain. Damage to Van-Meter’s 2008 Kia Rio was estimated at $5,000. At 12:29 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a subject carrying weapons at Greene County Medical Center. The subject was arrested by the JPD officer.

Friday, April 19: At 6:37 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 900 block of Harding St in Churdan. At 6:48 pm a deputy assisted the Paton fire department in the 300 block of County Road P-46 (X Ave) in Paton Township. At 8:12 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Grand Junction.

Thursday, April 18: At 2:05 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a traffic stop on Highway 30 at Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. A deputy arrested Juan Carlos Delgado Ramos, 41, of Alta, for operating while intoxicated- first offense*. At 10:42 am a deputy investigated a fire that was called in on 250th St and M Ave in Jackson Township. The fire was a called in controlled burn. At 6:38 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 2200 block of R Ave in Franklin Township. At 7:55 pm a deputy investigated an assault in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 17: At 1:36 am Martin Tolsdorf, 54, of Grand Junction was booked into the jail for a controlled substance violation (Class B felony), control of firearm as a felon, possession of a controlled substance- third or subsequent offense, and unlawful possession of prescription medication*. At 10:55 am a deputy attempted to locate two dogs running at large on Highway 30 near Eaton Ave east of Scranton. At 4:29 pm a deputy investigated a suspicious person in Scranton. At 8:01 pm a deputy investigated a domestic assault in Adaza.

Tuesday, April 16: At 2:15 pm a deputy investigated a fire that was called in on Highway 30 near Orchard Ave east of Jefferson. The fire was a controlled burn. At 6:26 pm a deputy investigated a single vehicle accident in the 500 block of County Road P-46 (X Ave) in Paton Township. Jason Perkins, 39, of Des Moines was operating a 2001 Honda GL1800 motorcycle and lost control and went into the ditch. Perkins was not injured. He was cited for not having a driver’s license. Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $1,500.

Monday, April 15: At 11:07 am a deputy and Grand Junction Fire responded to a ditch fire on Highway 30 near W Ave east of Grand Junction. At 11:20 am a deputy, Rippey Fire, and Grand Junction Fire responded to a grass fire on U Ave near the Rippey Coop. At 5:33 pm a deputy and Jefferson Fire responded to a vehicle fire on 260th St near County Road P-14 in Greenbrier Township. The 1990 Chevrolet 3500 pickup truck, which is owned by Dennis Murphy of Jefferson, was a total loss. At 5:54 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal dumping at the Grand Junction city dump. At 10:01 pm a deputy investigated an illegal fire in Grand Junction.

Sunday, April 14: At 1:58 pm a deputy and Scranton fire investigated a controlled burn that got out of control in the 1000 block of State St in Scranton.

Saturday, April 13: At 11:14 am a deputy investigated a theft in Grand Junction. At 2:20 pm a deputy arrested Christopher Quirk, 36, of Jefferson for driving while license suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia*. At 3:59 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a group of juveniles with drugs and drug paraphernalia at Daubendiek Park. At 4:17 pm a deputy arrested Chad Sloan, 39, of Jefferson for assault*.

Friday, April 12: At 7:31 am a deputy investigated a dog bite at the Grand Junction School. At 12:26 pm a deputy arrested Daryle Snyder, 50, of Perry after he was sentenced to five years in prison. At 7:38 pm a deputy investigated a theft in the 1000 block of H Ave in Bristol Township.

Thursday, April 11: At 9:07 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Churdan. At 5:08 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in Grand Junction.

Wednesday, April 10: At 7:12 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of illegal burning complaint in Scranton. At 7:22 pm a deputy investigated a stop sign that blown down on County Roads P-46 (X Ave) and E-26 (170th St) in Junction Township. At 10:03 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 1000 block of H Ave in Bristol Township.

Tuesday, April 9: At 9:42 am a deputy investigated a burglary in the 2200 block of R Ave in Franklin Township. At 2:10 pm a deputy investigated criminal mischief done by an inmate at the county jail. At 5:16 pm a deputy and Grand Junction fire responded to an out of control controlled burn on Highway 144 at 215th St north of Grand Junction.

Monday, April 8: At 1:33 pm a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Churdan. At 2:53 pm a deputy, Scranton fire and Coon Rapids fire responded to a controlled burn that got out of control on County Road E-57 (290th St) at County Road N-58  (A Ave) in Willow Township.  At 7:53 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint at the Grand Junction school building.

Sunday, April 7: At 2:36 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint Grand Junction. At 11:49 pm a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on Highway 30 and Eaton Ave east of Scranton. Miranda Schlicht, 19, of Des Moines struck a deer with her 2014 Toyota Camry and caused an estimated $100 in damage to the vehicle.

Saturday, April 6: At 12:22 am a deputy investigated a domestic assault in the 1000 block of C Ave in Kendrick Township. John Sabus, 44, of Churdan was arrested for domestic abuse assault with strangulation and bodily injury*. At 11:27 am a deputy arrested Melissa Kroupa, 39, of Granger for a probation violation arrest warrant*. At 3:05 pm a deputy arrested Matthew Blair, 41, of Churdan for an arrest warrant out of Cass County for failure to appear. At 11:17 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint in Paton.

Friday, April 5: At 2:18 am a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with a high-speed chase on Highway 30. At 11:23 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in the 900 block of Highway 4 (140th St) in Highland Township. At 11:45 am a deputy and the department K-9 assisted the Jefferson PD with a search of a vehicle at W. Stanford and N. Elm St. At 1:56 pm a deputy assisted the Jefferson PD with an arrest at Oly’s Corner. At 5:05 pm a deputy investigated a vicious dog complaint in Grand Junction. At 6:25 pm Curtis Hoyt, 54, of Perry was booked into the jail for arrest warrants for operating while under the influence- first offense, driving while license revoked, and failure to provide insurance*. At 8:30 pm a deputy investigated a trespass complaint at 175th St and C Ave in Kendrick Township.

Thursday, April 4: At 11:52 am a deputy assisted the ATF with a investigation in the 2200 block of H Ave in Greenbrier Township. At 7:31 pm a deputy investigated a criminal mischief complaint in Grand Junction. At 7:58 pm a deputy investigated a car- deer accident on 195th Street and Highway 144 in Junction Township. Conner Gibson, 19, of Scranton struck a deer with his 2005 Buick Lesabre, causing an estimated $300 damage to the vehicle.

Wednesday, April 3: At 3:29 am a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway 144 and 260th St in Junction Township and arrested Leigh Houghton, 53, of Sheldahl for an arrest warrant out of Dallas County. At 5:22 am a deputy investigated a car-deer accident on County Road E-53 (240th St) near I Ave in Jackson Township. Wayne Morris, 67, of Jefferson struck a deer, causing an estimated $2,000 damage to his 2000 Chevy S10 pickup truck. At 9:04 am a deputy investigated additional criminal mischief to the Seven Hills Park shelter house. The estimated damage was $400. At 1:50 pm a deputy conducted tobacco compliance checks at businesses and had no violations. At 5:29 pm a deputy, Grand Junction fire, Rippey fire, and Jefferson fire assisted the Perry fire department with a structure fire at 33 22 7th Lane in Boone County. At 8:45 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of someone burning tires in Scranton. At 9:18 pm Dakota Bishop, 26, of Jefferson was booked into the jail for a violation of conditions of parole*.

Tuesday, April 2: At 10:14 pm a deputy investigated a grass fire at 320th St and X Ave in Washington Township. The fire was found to be a controlled burn.

Monday, April 1: At 8:31 am a deputy investigated criminal mischief to the shelter house at Seven Hills Park in Jackson Township. At 11:27 am a deputy investigated a harassment complaint in Churdan. At 6:54 pm a deputy investigated a complaint of youngsters on the railroad tracks near Stanton St in Scranton. At 7:46 pm a deputy investigated a theft  in Grand Junction.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
