The Ram boys soccer team is 2-0 on the season after an 8-1 victory over the Carroll Tigers in Carroll Thursday.
Although coach Carl Behne thought his team started the first half a little flat compared to the season opener against Humboldt two days earlier, he said, “We played very well again tonight with our defense really starting to gel.”
The Rams scored four goals during the first half. The first scored came on the second of nine corner kicks. Isaiah Losee kicked “a beautiful header” after Junior Gutierrez placed the ball well. Gutierrez scored two goals and Luis Velazco scored one in the half.
During the second half Guttierez scored another goal and Velazco scored two more. Yunior Carballo scored his first goal of the season.
The Tigers got their lone goal of the game in the first half, on “an unexpected, fluke toe punched ball that was wet and looked like a knuckleball from 35 yards out,” according to Behne.
“I was very proud of how the boys played,” Behne said. “The game was very physical and a number of the boys will be ready for a restful weekend.”
All 18 varsity players saw time on the field.
The Rams’ home opener is April 9 at 5:30 pm at Karber Field in Grand Junction. The varsity will play first, followed by the junior varsity (one half only) at 7:15. The Rams will host Grand View Christian.
