NWS predicts ice, rain, snow and blustery winds for the weekend

Updated Friday, 8:30 pm

The National Weather Service has increased the amount of freezing drizzle expected Friday night and added a blizzard warning for much of western Iowa from Saturday at 6 pm through Sunday at 6 pm.

Freezing drizzle is expected Friday night into Saturday morning, ending by 9 am. Ice accumulation of approximately 0.16″ is expected locally.

Rain, possibly heavy, will fall in the afternoon. The rain will transition into snow late Saturday afternoon, possibly becoming heavy at times.

The most hazardous driving conditions will develop Saturday evening and continue through Sunday. Northwest winds with gusts of 40-50 mph will cause significant blowing and drifting of snow and severely reduce visibility. Blizzard conditions are expected, particularly in rural areas.
