The Greene County softball team started the week with a pair of home games, losing both of them.
The Rams hosted the South Hamilton Hawks Monday in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play.
The teams played even-up ball for the first five innings, with a 1-1 tie at after five. The Hawks’ bats connected in innings six and seven, as the visitors scored six runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh while the Rams could muster only a pair of runs. The final score was 10-3.
The Hawks had 12 hits and committed four errors. The Rams tallied eight hits and three errors. Izzy Bravard hit a double, the Rams’ only extra base hit. Megan Carey and Laurin Lyons had two singles each, and Samantha Hardaway, Lilly Muir and Faith Davis had one each.
Hardaway pitched all seven innings and allowed six earned runs. She walked four and struck out three.
The Rams are 3-3 in the HOIAC.
The Greene County team was no match for Class 4A fourth-rated ADM in Jefferson June 12. The game ended 14-1 after five innings via the 10-run rule.
Tiger pitcher sophomore Abbie Hlas threw a one-hitter, tallying eight strikeouts and no walks. The Rams’ one run was a solo homer by junior Jenna Beyers in the fourth inning.
The Tigers had 12 hits for the game.
Hardaway pitched the first three innings and took the loss. Beyers pitched the last two innings.
The loss puts the Rams at 3-9 on the season while the ADM Tigers are 18-2.
