Jefferson residents plan CAFO in Greenbrier Township

(Edited with correct information about New Modern Concept’s role in the project)

A pair of Jefferson residents have submitted to the Iowa DNR an application for a construction permit for a two-building, 4,980-head hog confinement on L Ave just north of County Road E-63 in Greenbrier Township.

County zoning coordinator Chuck Wenthold told the county supervisors of the application at their Feb. 20 meeting. The master matrix will be reviewed Feb. 26 and a public hearing has been scheduled for Monday, March 5, at 9 am.

Megan Carman and Nick Miller filed the application doing business as Oakview Pork LLC. Carman’s home address is listed as the business address.

The manure management plan was prepared by Twin Lakes Environmental Services LLC of Rockwell City. The site, with an estimated production of 11,454 animals per year, will produce an estimated 1.56 million gallons of manure each year. It will be injected into 306 acres of farmland. The land has been purchased by Oakview Pork from Mark ad Gayle Lange.

Oakview Pork will be built by New Modern Concepts of Iowa Falls.

The complete application is posted to the Greene County website under the Documents tab.
