Greene County was represented well at the Iowa Elks northwest district Hoop Shoot, held Saturday at the Greene County Middle School gym. Four competitors placed first in their division. Trevon Keely won among boys ages 8-9, Brynley Ruzicka won the boys ages 10-11 division, Bryce Stalder on among boys 12-13, and Natalie Towers won in the girls ages 8-9 division.
They will advance to the state Hoop Shoot in Grinnell Feb. 17.
Also this past weekend, officers from the six lodges in the northwest district, which includes the Jefferson lodge 2306, attended a vice president clinic in Council Bluffs.
From the northwest district, Bill Berger of Jefferson is current state president-elect and will be installed as state president at the Elks state convention in April.
Les Fister of Lodge 2306 was nominated and elected as northwest district Elk of the Year. He is one of four nominations for state Elk of the Year. That award will be named at the spring state convention.
